Do we have any picks in the 2nd round, or did we trade them off somewhere? thanks

We don't have a pick; traded in the Marcus Thornton deal.

I'd be surprised if we don't end up with one thoguh.

I would be too. With our emphasis on young talent right now, I see us trying to grab an extra pick somewhere. Plus rookies come really cheap. Our rebuild will work great in that regard.

If we deal with Golden State or Toronto, we will probably get a second or two as part of the deal.

It really depends on the market for Ariza and Jack, as both teams want a 3 and the Warriors want a point to backstop Curry.

2nd round picks are also easy and relatively cheap to buy, and I think there are a few smaller market teams with multiple 2nds (could be wrong there).

IF we get a 2nd, I 100% expect us to pick a Euro/International player and stash him overseas for a few years, Spurs style. Don't expect an immediate return for a 2nd round pick

And it seems like we finally have an owner who would buy a decent pick rather than sell.

Evan Fournier is slotted to go in the late first where we don't currently have a pick. Demps was scouting in Europe for about a month recently so I don't think he was being brought in so Demps could get a second look, it was probably so Monty could get a first look. Yeah Demps is thorough, but I'd have to think there's legitimate interest if the Hornets were going to be the first team to work him out.

Why should we even worry about a 2nd round pick.

The last 2 months so many posters have been saying how much of a crap shoot most players are from the 10th spot on down. If the majority of the first round players drafted are not definite, then why even waste a player/money drafting someone in the 2nd?

Because following the San Antonio model and building a team with solid drafting even if you only have late draft picks is one of the primary reasons Demps was hired. And so far he's shown that he is good at finding talent that few others have noticed. The draft may be a crap shoot but Demps plays with loaded dice.

Its nice to have a GM that actually goes and watches prospects play, even international players, unlike Bower and Company that relied almost entirely on videos from scouting services.

I get all that. It's jsut that a few weeks ago people were complaining about how the 10th pick is such a crapshoot and people never materialize much past midway in the first round. Now people are saying we are going to luck out on people in the 2nd round.

There was a post a few days ago about the last 10 #10 picks and about 60% of them were really good players.

The Hornets have an actual scouting department now and Demps himself goes to other countries to scout players. Getting to draft Anthony Davis was lucky, finding guys like Jason Smith and Gustavo Ayon was all Demps. I'd love to give him the chance to draft some euro stashes.

Value, homey. Would you be more likely to buy a lottery ticket for $1 with 1:1,000,000,000 odds or spend $10 for a ticket with 2:1,000,000,000 odds?

Hell, even Bower and Co. drafted Brandon Bass in the second round. Blind squirrel rubbing his nuts.
