Offers great 3pt shooting off the bench. Not bad for a cheap role player.

I've had enough of him. We are cleaning house. He will never be better than the 10th best player on any team. I'd rather give a youung D-Leaguer a chance and maybe he becomes a decent 8th guy, but we'll never know if we keep letting Babbitt comb his hair at the end of the bench every year.

Career 40%+ 3 point shooter on a $1.2 million contract. He averaged 18 minutes a game last year. Not attached to him at all, but I think he fills a role.

Yeah, but we shouldn't go out of our way to keep him. If we had to cut him to get Galloway and needed more than the minimum to bring him back, Hello Nick Minnerath.

Pels have gotten a lot more athletic. Now if they can get Asik into shape....

Yeah, I would not lose out on someone else for him. Do not know much about Minnerath. He is 28 and has not been in the NBA year (other than summer league and preseason). Not sure how much he offers.

I've wondered that myself since he's not even a starter in the DLeague, but his shooting numbers are great, one of the profiles said he had a little Birdman in him referring not just to the drug troubled past and tattoos but also being a guy that wasn't afraid of contact. He's 6'9, can shoot and will fight for rebounds in the paint, he'd have to be pretty damn slow footed or slow released to not be able to fill Luke "Pump Fake" Babbitt's shoes.

-2.0 DRPM , 112 drtg. He is as one-dimensional as they come. Yes he can knock down open 3's, but that is practically all he contributes. It seems we are trying to move away from that type of player.

I don't know how accurate the comparison is, but David Fisher just threw out "Nick Minnerath is what you get if you combine Dante Cunningham and Luke Babbitt into one player. And gave him lots of tattoos."

Here's a profile from one of those sites that follows the DLeague guys.

quote:

Nick Minnerath, F, New Orleans Pelicans

Minnerath is perhaps the safest bet to light up at LVSL. The 6’9? Detroit Mercy grad will be playing for the Pelicans after spending the season with the Canton Charge, where he was perhaps the D-League’s best shooter, hitting 50.8 percent from the field, 40.2 percent from three, and 88.8 percent from the line en route to leading the Charge in scoring. Minnerath is also a decent rebounder (9th in defensive rebounds in the D-League), and could see success as a floor spacing stretch four in small-ball lineups at the next level.

Minnerath’s likely to star at Summer League for many reasons. He’s consistently hit around the 50/40/90 mark over three seasons in the D-League, France, and Spain, and he’s excellent at getting open on the perimeter for kick-out looks, something that’s a big part of the Alvin Gentry offense. He also gets to play next to Buddy Hield, which seems like a good combination, especially if they get to run some pick-and-pops together. Look for Minnerath to be a major player in Summer League, and for him to be on an NBA roster in October.

Always a spot for a 3 point shooter on a roster. If a young minimum player can replace that and maybe add versatility, I am sure they will replace Babbitt with that player.

I love it when we use him as the defender on Durant/Kobe/Carmello/LeBron.

He just gets abused, the star player puts on a show, and the Pels usually win those games.

When we beat the Cavs at home in 2014 this is exactly what we did. LeBron teed off on Babbitt, but no one else was getting involved and the Pels were able to win that game. So awesome to watch.

You should check out this short Minnerath highlight clip LINK I went in hoping to see his 3 point shot and see what kind of release he had and the first 2/3 of the video is him catching alley oops, dunking on people, and chasing down guards/wings to block their shots. They did show a few 3 point shots at the end and his release was decent compared to Pump Fake Babbitt. After watching that I'd be disappointed if he doesn't light it up in Summer League and take Babbitt's roster spot.

My question with him has been, why at 28 years old, has he not even gotten a sniff from an NBA team (and was not even a starter in the D-League)? Maybe he is a late bloomer, but something does not smell right. Has he had any off the court issues?

after looking at that small sample size video, he looks 10x's better than Babbitt.

My concern is we let him get away from us like Seth Curry who had a great summer league on our team last year

According to BBall Insiders, the league notified all teams they project the 17/18 cap to be at $102M, down from ~$108 projected previously.

Not what teams expected, and potentially massive news. Could, for instance, cost Warriors re-signing Iggy next yr

Sad that the NBA could not release this BEFORE everyone structure contracts during the moratorium period.

I know.

Though, the article suggests the spending this summer deflated the cap projection for next year.

That would be drugs — and lots of them. Cocaine, especially. For two years after high school, Minnerath says, he did coke and bounced around low-wage jobs — construction, driving a cab, ringing up customers at the Cumberland Farms. Those are two crucial years when elite players star in college or head to the NBA. Minnerath lost them.

...Minnerath starred for two years at Jackson College before transferring to the University of Detroit Mercy. He earned his four-year degree in communications with a B average and then played professionally for two years in France and Spain before getting invited to training camp last fall with the Cleveland Cavaliers
