Greivis Vasquez becoming more Greivis every day

“It’s a great opportunity for me to develop my game, to develop my leadership skills, and I think this is a chance that I got to take advantage of because Coach Monty Williams really likes my game,” Vasquez said to HOOPSWORLD. “He likes what I do, and that’s important in the NBA when you get a coach that is really interested in helping you, he wants to help you, he wants to make you better, if you take advantage of that, you can really establish yourself in the NBA.”
Prior to the NBA at Maryland Vasquez was one of the premier point guards in the nation with unmatched size and versatility. However, there were doubts that he could play the position in the NBA, let alone be a starter. Thanks to Coach Williams, though, he’s looking a lot like he did as a Terrapin.
“That’s the way I look at it now,” Vasquez said. “I’m becoming more Greivis every day, who I am. You don’t come into this league and dominate it right away. So now, I’m making progress, I think I’m getting better every day. I still got so much I want to get better. I think this is going to be a year for me to learn so much to the point that eventually that I am going to be the player that I really want to be, especially the point guard that I want to be so I just have to keep growing every day.”

great attitude, great leader...he has improved his 3 point shooting this season, and i think he will keep getting better.
He's been very solid finishing around the goal with his floaters, etc.

I've been champing for him all year. I really like what he provides and I hope he plays her for a while.

I’m excited. I come to work extremely excited everyday because I am happy to be in this city, I am happy to be playing for this organization, and I think eventually everything is going to click, and I am not just saying this, I am saying this because we have put the work in.”

I hope he plays here for awhile...as a backup.
I love him as a backup. As a starter, when teams start to press he is getting absolutely owned, and he can't really defend quick guys.

ya, me too...the team absolutely runs through him right now.
With Anderson and Lopez being mostly pick-and-roll/pick-and-pop players, it seems like everything goes through Vasquez when he is in the game. He has delivered.

his lack of athleticism has been and always will be his glaring weakness, especially on the defensive end, but I think he can get it done as a starter. I'd rather the team go after a SF or C and roll with Gravy.

I can't wait to see him and Gordon together, I think they will fit well with each other.

he has improved his PPG, RPG, APG, PER, and 3 Point % per 36 minutes each season.
his FG% is a little down. needs to improve in that area. still a young player

They played pretty well together at the end of the season last year. I hope they can get back to that.

Again, this is where Gordon is supposed to help out. Instead, we have Austin Rivers and Roger Mason providing little help.

Legit gripe. This is another place Gordon could help, but he is definitely limited. I think Monty would find a way to minimize the deficiencies.

Therein lies the rub. I think the guy is a decent, middle of the round point guard.
I want better than that. This team is seriously deficient this year in Guard play, especially transition up court, and defense.
His stats are good, but my eyes tell a different story. I was optimistic last year, but I'm more pessimistic this year even with his stats up.
As with anything, I will wait until we have Gordon and Davis in the mix...
But I think he can be upgraded. I would prefer to upgrade the PG position via FA or Trade, and SF in the draft.

I want better than that, too. I want a top 10 star in the league 2 deep at every position. However, the league doesn't work like that. You always have to settle somewhere. Are we going to upgrade the point and leave Aminu and Miller at the 3? No legit backup center?

You pretty much have to, especially Gordon.

There are only so many PGs available that would be upgrades, and we'll be bidding against other teams for those. Aside from Paul or Jennings, most of them are going to be fairly small upgrades, but will probably cost significant flexibility. You have to make sure the cost-benefit is in your favor.

I think the return of Eric Gordon(fingers crossed) alleviates the deficiencies of Vasquez.
