At the very least post a synopsis of what you wish was possible

For those who chooses not to read the entire article....

quote:

It’s an ideal scenario for everybody. If you are Demps, you call him up today and tell him that he will come off the bench if he returns here next season. But, if he agrees to void his player option, that you will work hand-in-hand with Gordon and his agent to find him an ideal landing place this summer. He gets the love and adoration that he desires, and the Pelicans get to transition to the tandem that should have been their starting backcourt all along.

if Gordon truly is as delusional as he sounds then this

The 2015 SG market is pretty thin. LINK Aaron Afflalo (player option) is the only SG definitely better than Gordon probably thinks he is. Gordon is easily better (in his mind) than Marcus Thornton, Gary Neal, Wesley Matthews. If he really thinks he's a 20ppg guy that plays solid defense and doesn't have injury red flags, then he would see himself as the top 1 or 2 guards on the market. I still think there's a good chance he wouldn't opt out for spite and to force the team to buy him out and stretch him.

He won't opt out. He'll definitely push for a buyout.

You cut a player and you still pay him the money you owe him, but you can stretch it out over 2 times the years remaining on his deal + 1. In the scenario I mentioned, you convince him to take $11 to leave instead of $15 to stay next season, and you stretch that $11 million out over 3 years, or $3.3 million per year. There are some other aspects to the stretch provision where if he signs a deal with another team you can offset part of your cap hit. It's not a full offset though, so in the ball park of $3 million of dead cap space over 3 years is probably a good estimate of what would happen if we stretched Gordon.

The good thing about the stretch vs. the amnesty is that it's actually part of your cap, so you don't have to convince Mr. Benson to eat $15 million, Demps just has to live with the dead cap space.

Then give him an ultimatum:

Be a sixth man the entire year and in a situation you don't want or take the buyout/stretch and GTFO.

Salary doesn't match and we're not helping the rockets

Doubt ryno is going anywhere either.

If all things were equal, Gordon has maybe 1 good contract left in him (just play along for a minute). If he's left to rot on the bench, he has no real chance of producing big numbers and little chance of garnering any major interest when his contract is over here. If he opts out, some jackass GM will buy into the "They just didn't love me" story and give him a $9-10M a year deal. Seems to me he's better off opting out and having a chance at 4 to 5 year deal.

I know; it's just wishful thinking.,

Maybe. But I'm not sure any competent GM would think he's worth that based on his injury history and lack of production here.

Realistic scenerios:

Gordon comes off the bench and puts up ridiculous numbers and opts out for better contract.

Godon pouts, gets injured, rarely plays and plays poorly and doesn't opt out.

Neither one is really all that great for us except the good numbers he could potentially put up.
