Karl will not be brought back for the final year of his contract, source tells Y! Sports. He was informed this morning.

In final year of deal, Karl was pushing for a contract extension, and ownership wasn't prepared to give it to him, source tells Y!

Denver believes it can attract an elite coach with its roster; simply didn't want to deal with an unhappy Karl in final year of contract.

hat tip to jamal in another thread for the heads up.

So does this put Iggy in play for the Pelicans? I still think he'll be high enough up the FA food chain that he'll go to a playoff level team.

I can't decide if I want Iggy. I keep thinking of course we want him, but for some reason I am unsure.

I tend to agree... He's opting out of $16m in hopes for a longer deal

At his age, I dont see him taking less money to join a re-build.

Even Iggy going somewhere else could have an impact though as it would probably take Wilson Chandler off the trade block and possibly Corey Brewer off the FA market.

Feel free to start your own thread next time. I'm here because y'all read things and think things that I don't.

With George Karl out, Pelicans Coach Monty Williams is the 7th longest-tenured coach in the NBA.

So he's either getting closer to greatness or being fired.

How said is it that a coach with only 3 years of experience is 7th most-tenured in the NBA?

NBA head coaches have the turnover rate of Latin American strongmen.

More evidence that these media awards are worse than pointless... they point wrongly.

It's a regular season award. He was fired for winning close to 60 and not getting to the 2nd round. Only once in 9 years is not worth a resigning. He choked in Seattle as a #1 seed and lost twice in Denver with 50 plus win teams in the 1st round.

Thanks for elaborating about how they are worse than pointless.
