Great read from At The Hive after OKC game comparing the team to early Durant, Westbrook teams.

quote:

The most important thing for fans to remember in rebuilding years is this - the stronger the foundation, the stronger the building. There's a reason why buildings are built from the ground-up. However, in building the foundation, we usually don't see it (it is underground) but it ensures a good, stable and sustainable building. So it's best to exercise patience. And currently, the Hornets have one of the best foundations in the LEAGUE (YES, I said it).

quote:

I'd bet my entire life savings that New Orleans will follow this timeline (with or without that pesky Gordon injury bug) sooner than later. Mark my words -- New Orleans will probably NOT compete for a playoff spot this year unless Gordon plays a significant amount of minutes. Even then, we'll be lucky to get into the playoffs. But 2 years from now? The sky is the limit.

i realize these are fans writing these blogs, but holy shite do they lose all credibility when they throw in a "we" or "us"

Not really. It's fans running a blog for other fans. I'm sure anyone reading it won't mind a Hornets fan referring to them as his own team.

do you just enjoy not agreeing with everything i say? if i said the sky was fricking blue, you would say no, it's pink.

with my background as a journalist, i was taught to never ever ever under any circumstance, no matter the forum, use the word "we" or "us" when covering a team.

ever.

This is the Bill Simmons school of sportswriting. Voice of the fan, etc.

Not sure that he loses credibility for being a fan. Overall his take is rational. He's not wearing blinders and not going out of his way to blast the team or the franchise.

This style is just sort of where many of the blogs are, which hasn't been a bad trend IMO

They're not journalists in the classic sense. No big deal.

i'm not knocking your education/experience, but there is a reason old media is dying and new media is emerging

No doubt, but it's not all necessarily a good thing.

i like having 1000x more options PLUS breaking down the "old media wall" ESPECIALLY in terms of analytical news media

leave old media for fact reporting and new media for analysis

The I we thing is for someone covering the team to report. Consider play-by-play.

To me, there's a place for color analyst, so to speak.

Style / formalism is necessary, and there are various choices for each, appropriate choices for a range of situations.

To dismiss the content on the basis of style is a choice by the reader and a risk the writer takes.

I tend to try to take the good and leave thr bad, myself.

Personally, I take chances and accept the risk people won't like them. I am unapologetically a.fan, and that sets my scope. In style, I think I'm less of a "we" guy, but I take other chances.

I predicted 20 wins for the season, by the way. I'm not sure a stray "we" makes me a homer.

We need one of these. PHI will become NBA team #12 to buy outright or enter an exclusive control agreement. We are the second youngest team in the league, and the new NBA collective bargaining agreement calls for NBA veterans to also do rehab assignments at the D-League level like Major League Baseball players do.
