this isn't the NFL or CFB where a manager position is almost always long-term with really long-term effects

this is the NBA. coaches routinely get fired in their first season if they fail in the NBA. even successful coaches get fired (see George Karl, Mark Jackson, Tom Thibodeau, etc). if Gentry really is as big of a failure as you all fear, then he'll be fired a year from now and we'll have another shot at hiring a new coach.

it doesn't look like anybody is knocking the door down for any realistic candidate (Tom Thibodeau is not fricking coming here) for the pellies job , so we'll likely even have a second shot at our targets again.

It's essentially a 3 year deal which gives a few seasons left after that with Davis if need be to get a new coach. Hopefully that won't be necessary.

Barkley said it best. You need stud players to be stud coach.

this is true Jackson always had 2 of the best players in the NBA on all of his championship teams.

4 of them are considers top 50 all time (MJ, Pippen, Shaq, Kobe) Gasol was amazing the year they won with him.

Pop has always had Duncan, I think Pop could win with anybody, but it helps to have Duncan for 15 plus seasons.
