I saw an injury prone shooting guard who was acting like a diva that made it clear he didn't want to play for the Hornets. I didn't see any good out of keeping him.
There is no way you could've known it would turn out this way. Demps had no choice but to match the offer from Phoenix. Just because someone signs an offer sheet and says they want to play somewhere else doesn't make them a diva. I mean, it's not hard to find people that would prefer to live in Phoenix over New Orleans.
One comment did the guy in. Nic Batum wanted to go to Minny this past off season. He made a copule of comments that rubbed Portland fans the wrong way but they matched and they had a great year.
Gordon hasn't had the luxury of playing on exciting, playoff bound teams (and contributing to that) to make fans change their minds about him. He certainly wasn't the reason we missed the playoffs this year and it's not his fault he's getting $16 million/year. He was a young, up and coming shooting guard.
He will never be a leader on any team. It's not really a knock on him as a player, he is just an extremely introverted guy. What I don't think he realizes is how easily he could revise his image. If he made a couple of comments about loving the city, being excited for the season, doing a bunch of work in the community, etc. people would start to look past one dumbass comment. I honestly think he's naive to the fact that he's disliked.
I go back and forth on this topic. I think the hate he gets is more about his personality, or lake of, than his play on the court.
