Definitely. Just is mind boggling that they think like this after what we've seen the last few years.

I missed this: what was the Diallo thought process?

Signing Ryno back would kill me.

That's kind of the reason for the thread. Does Diallo give us a sliver of hope that Ryno returning could be a positive experience. I'm not hopeful he'd be a useful trade asset. Look at Tobias Harris. Look at Nene, all he netted them was Shaqtin a Fool star JaVale McGee and end of bench big Ronnie Turiaf. The Nuggets later paid a 1st round pick to unload McGee.

He could be a useful player though. With AD going down 15 games a year you need a backup PF that can score better than Cunningham can.

I let everyone know around pick 24 that they were trying to trade up for him. He was top 15 on their boards and Dell saw him as a Faried-like prospect, who he had regretted not going and getting years before. Also, Erman is a BIG fan

That's kind of revisionist history. McGee helped a lot at the time and was seen to have big upside. A lot of Pels fans wanted to put him next to AD that summer.

It's not the exact thing the Nuggets got for Nene that mattered as much as the fact that they got something as opposed to nothing.

Look, I don't agree with the logic, but I could see why they don't want to just let Ryno walk either, especially if the price for wing guys are going to go through the roof- even for the bad ones

I mean, I would prefer Ryno at 16 mil to Solomon Hill and Brandon Rush at that same number if that's all we could lure.

I'll allow it but only a 2-3 yr deal please. Anything 4 or more is a waste

The thing that makes Ryno attractive is that even if he ends up costing you 18 mil, you only need 12.5 in cap space to re-sign him. If another guy is gonna cost you 18 mil, you need 18 mil in cap space to sign him

So you can dump Reke and go sign a Dudley or Harkless and then go over the cap to sign Ryno. It might be your best chance of getting 2 quality players, as opposed to 1

How is it revisionist? George Karl got him to be a 9/5 bench big for one year. That is literally the peak of his career, a good bench big. And they got him because he was seen as damaged, or rather crazy goods. It's not like when we were able to trade for Chandler and Chicago was just going a different direction.

Moving on from Ryno isn't a black and white issue. Like I mentioned before, with AD's injury proneness he's a nice luxury to have around. And I have to think he'd be sorely missed in the locker room if he did leave because he's such a likable guy. But back to the theme of them not learning from past mistakes. Resigning Ryno instead of going after a younger replacement like Nicholson feels like Asik vs. Biyombo all over again. Even if Nicholson is just 80% of Ryno rather than outplaying him like Biyombo did Asik, it's still the best use of cap space.

They don't see it as "past mistakes". They see it as past moves that could've really worked if not for incredibly bad luck

So, they aren't afraid to continue with similar logic and hope the bad luck is gone.

See why I was so frustrated now?

If you dump Reke, and keep Ryno's hold on the books you should have almost 20 mil in cap space, right? Maybe I'm remembering wrong.

Dumping Reke won't be easy.

And do we have any inkling that they even want to? or can?

The same directives and strategies are still in place.

I'll never be a guy that says "If the team does x,y,z, then I'll never attend another game." However, as an engaged, loyal fan, re-signing Anderson would go a long way in disengaging my interest as a fan for this season. Cue the old saying about doing the same thing but expecting different results.

I just want to stay away from Ryno.

Bad back, not worth his asking price and I think the idea of signing and then trading him months later is a low probability plan like has bitten us before.

I'd rather Dudley on the cheap who has position versatility and maybe a Marvin Williams like people said.

We just saw a finals that showed how ineffective a stretch 4 can be if he isn't hitting shots. And Ryno doesn't have the rebounding to make up for cold nights. He would be a 16-18 million decoy on cold nights that gets burnt on the other end and will still feel he is required to finish games with every time. I'll pass.
