Does anybody have a grip on what they are doing. Gentry came over here with this Warrior 3 point offensive mentality. He sold the Pels on it enough to let Monty go after making the playoffs.
Now we have no 3 point shooters and have added another big man (a good one yes). What happened?

Don't worry, it's all part of the plan

This is WAAAAAAAAAAAY underselling Cousins. You now have 2 top 15 players and the 2nd star that will hopefully keep AD in NOLA long term.

What Demps has always done, although it makes a lot more sense now. Trade picks for young vets.

Michael McNamara is one of the better Pels writers (Crewz is his TD name) and he's posting a 3 part series this week on the different directions the Pels can go this offseason. Something's messed up with linking to them so you'll have to copy and paste the URL.

both articles are required reading
anyone who doesn't and starts with off-season idea dumbassery should be soundly rebuked and perhaps even shunned

I know you have to spitball a lot as a writer but if we trade for Melo (esp at the cost of two firsts) I will punch my balls

You can't judge the roster right now. It's much easier to replace shooter than it is to find bigs like Cousins. How this roster shapes out next season will be a better barometer to go by. This season should be about Davis, Holiday, and Cousins finding the right balance and meshing. It's going to be a fun process. People need to sit back and watch the development.

Everybody underestimates gentry's coaching abilities IMO

Re-sign Jrue and bring in a wing or two and see how this team does with an offseason to prep

I'll give Gentry this, he's changing his style of coaching and play in the matter of a week. He has his work cut out for him.

i get the homers hating him because they can't see past wins-loses. but you're a dolt if you think he's a bad coach.

and don't forget, Gentry isn't shooting below 33% (outside of AD and Cousins) since the break. If we had a competent front office that put talent on this roster, this team would have a winning record.

the saddest part in the boogie cousins trade is that it saved dell demps' job.

I just hope Cousins sells enough tickets that they can pick the style of play based on the roster and not trying to please the fan base. Gentry was hired in part to play the exciting, fast pace style. When you're a bottom of the league team in one area, be it offense or defense, increasing the number of possessions you expose your league leading weakness to seems like a terrible idea.

Hopefully they can figure out that you can play with pace and bang down low.

Push the ball every time you can. With AD and Cousins running the floor you will most likely get a mismatch in transition. But instead of kicking it out for a 3 go to the post.

The guards need to understand that if Cousins has his man sealed off in the paint, pass him the ball.

I would also like to see them go the pick and roll with Cousins and AD. The few times I have seen it we have scored.

what the frick else is there to see other than wins and losses? he's been a loser everywhere he's been, except that 1 year he had the league MVP and future HOFer in Nash, the other futer HOFer in Grant Hill, 5x All NBA player Amare Staudamire, Jason Richardson, Robin Lopez, Channing Frye, Barbosa, Dudley, and Dragic. 6 of those guys shot over 40% from 3.

If you've watched the plays we have out of timeouts all year, and think we are undervaluing him as a head coach, then you either haven't watch the Pels, or you don't know what you are watching.

and to your point, i can look past wins and losses when the talent isnt there. Look at what Spoelstra is doing in Miami this year. I'd bet the vast majority of nba fans couldn't name 5 guys from that team, yet Spoelstra has them playing like a playoff team now. Swap coaches and teh Pels are a playoff team, and Maimi is guaranteed a top 5 pick this year.

Deep teams dont win you championships or playoff series. You only run like 8 dudes tops in the POs. If a shallow team is good enough to make the postseason, thats the better option IMO>

Everyone has bad days even on message boards!

- Gentry has as many winning seasons his entire career as Monty Williams did in his stint here (2 - one is the lockout 50 win season)

- Gentry has as many winning seasons his entire career as Byron Scott did in his stint here (2 - one is the lockout 50 win season)

Gentry is actually a very good coach. He's just not a very good head coach. Classic Peter Principle. Allow him to focus purely on offense as lead assistant and he can be really successful. I believe he can implement an effective system with the talent we now have. However ask him to additionally motivate/lead/discipline a team, set lineups, and make in game adjustments and he seems to be in over his head.
