Good afternoon, Mr. Ford!Who's is in play for the Mavs pick (what are you hearing)? Pistons, Cavs, others? What is it going to cost besides taking on Marion?

Chad Ford (1:30 PM) I've also heard the Knicks, Thunder and Cavs. Cost is either a 2014 first rounder or taking back Marion into room. By the way, some teams think that the Mavs may already have a deal as the trade talk has silenced in Dallas the past few days. The Mavs can't officially announce anything until after they make their draft selection.

Unless we already have a foot in the door on another really good SF, I don't see why we don't make this deal with Dallas and take Marion for a year.

I'm more tempted to make the deal regardless...draft pick plus a temp upgrade at a Pos of need. There is short and long term value written all over this deal. 4 1st round picks in two years guranteed cap space a year from now in a good FA class with another 1st rounder on the way which if EG can't play could be 1 more lottery go. Our team would be borderline built and ready to go.

Would Marion have to opt in before this can happen? If so, when is his deadline to opt in/out?

I believe players technically opt out rather than opting in, so he's already in unless he declare's he's out. The deadline for opting out is June 30th. I think the trade would have to happen July 1st so you're working with next year's money. So Marion could certainly sink the deal if he decided he didn't want to play for the Pelicans. I would imagine the Mavs will pick a player we both like and can agree on if some sort of deal is already in place.

I was looking at the Draft Express video of Nogueria and he's kind of like Davis without any offensive skill besides dunking/oops. That would be a pretty long and mobile front court and he seems like the kind of guy that both Dallas and NOLA could agree on at 13.

Jack playing hero ball and Vasquez trying to use screens to get past the 3 point line have unfortunately been the best options for initiating the offense the past 2 seasons.

not to mention having to beat the shot clock all the time and committing clock violations in what has to be a records number of times.

Dallas will move this pick and clear their cap space. Why not be the team that benefits?

what hoora is going on about this? yes it may have hit the wire but that is were it'll likely stay. other teams want the star players also. just cause pussywadded PT doesnt like em don't mean our f/o isnt working some phones.

marion's salary 9.3mil+15% trade kicker=close to 10.7mil.

10.7 + #13 slotted salary/1.9mil=13mil. i think i summed that up correctly.

this player and this pick in this draft is a crock of shite and the only big noise of it is on pelicans talk.

a lot of suggestions on here are to deal and flip. why not just use our own cap space, picks and 1year guys to get the same outcome.

Now, now. You're sounding like you're the one in need of Vagisil.

Yes, that's a lot for a 1st in this draft, the only way it works is if you can use Marion, which we can, BUT if we're the only one that can use Marion then we're the only one on the market willing to pay more than Vince Carter which means we can set the price at Vince Carter if we so choose. You'd have to feel you had no big or medium money options to take on Marion.

Why not do it all?

Oladipo falls to 6, trade with TWolves for DWill and #9. Flip DWill for Wilson Chandler. Take on Carter for #13.

The one problem with this route is you now no longer have star level cap space even in 2014, but if you make the right picks you did just acquire a bunch of mid level assets that can be flipped in a trade a la Houston getting James Harden.

Cuban is adamant, however, that the rumors about the Mavs being willing to part with the pick for minimal return if a team takes Shawn Marion's $9.32 million salary off their hands are inaccurate. Cuban insists that the Mavs have not had any talks with teams about trading Marion. "Not a single discussion," Cuban said via email to ESPNDallas.com.

I'm sure what's going on with the Clippers is making Cuban nervous about clearing cap space for nothing 2 years in a row.

That would be awesome if a repeat of last year happened to them again this year.

I don't think Dell and Monty care that much about this draft class to grab a 13th pick with the 6th and why should they? Unless they really like someone late. Or if they want to flip the pick and package it to move up if Len drops to 4...
