Lance had 21/6/4 last night. Yeah he still had too many Lance plays, but he's saying all the right things and with one foot out of the league I think he'd accept a long term role as a bench guy that you bring in to cause the chaos. Stephenson saying the right things:

quote:

On the keys to his success tonight:
“Being in attack mode, trying to make the right plays, driving and trying to create for others. Mostly trying to win the game.”

On whether he put more emphasis on this game as a former Grizzlies player:
“Oh, no. No, I’m just trying to get back in my groove, trying to help this team win, just trying to work on the little stuff so that everything will come easy. But we just got to keep working, watch film, keep learning each other. I think as we go along, I think we’ll get better as a unit.”

On the last play in regulation:
“I mean, it was a good play. I just felt like we should have slipped and made…not a three-pointer, a two-pointer, made an easier shot. It was tied up, we didn’t need a three. I mean, we are still learning, still learning each other. He never played with me in a clutch moment like that. We’re still gaining a feel for each other. Once the season goes along, I mean, we will be alright…Because we’re playing with a lot of new guys. And we’re being put in moments where it’s tough. We don’t know what we’re going to do. He doesn’t know what I’m going to do; I don’t know what he’s going to do. We’re still learning each other. So as the season goes along, I think we’re going to get to know each other and these possessions like that will come easy.”

On his transition to being a veteran presence on a young team:
“It’s different; it’s tough. It’s very challenging. I always got to be doing the right thing, because everybody’s watching. And I’m not really a vocal person, so I’m learning how to be vocal and helping other guys and being that guy that tries to talk them through it.”

It kind of sounds like he may be maturing. That's not going to make his BBIQ any better, but as long as he accepts a bench role the coach can control the dosage of Lance the team gets.

AD and Lance are the only players on the roster who plays attacking styles on both ends of the floor. Neither one is intimidated by anyone. I love Lance on this team. He is the intimidator on this team.

I agree that he is saying all of the right things and for the most doing all the right things. He has his moments, but so far the majority of the time those moments haven't really been a huge hindrance.

I think he can be a piece moving forward if he continues being this guy and not the other one.

Daresay I think Lance could be the Draymond of this team. I don't mean from an on-the-court perspective. How many times have you heard that Draymond is the "emotional leader" of the Warriors? We need someone to light fires under people on the court and be hyped up all the time. It can be a positive if reined in to a degree.

As much shite as he has gotten for the ear blow, I think that was a telling play. He isn't easily intimidated and teams need guys like that, even if they can be a little too much at times.

Lance has looked solid.

What happens if Lance and Reke are on the floor at the same time?

They are too similar. The universe would implode.

could be very good or very bad...could be good ball movement and finishes by 2 athletic scorers or it could 2 guys playing iso ball when they have it.

Lance has done really well helping to create shots for Hield and if you watch him he is super encouraging to buddy. but at the same time he isn't afraid to get out there and get after it

He has decent stats but the team is still 0-5. They could have been 0-5 with Quincy Ford or someone like that and had a potential future piece. The whole point of keeping him was to help get a few extra wins while Jrue was out. Turns out, they were going to lose regardless

Why can't Lance be a future piece?

I understand why you would want that, and I'd like that too, but the one thing that was lacking in your argument is why that policy fits this stupid team. Diallo and Rivers are the only "not ready to play" guys Demps has picked up in all of his time here. Darius Miller, Pierre Jackson, Russ Smith, Jeff Withey were all 4 year guys like Buddy. As you pointed out, they chose vets over BDJ to start the season last year.

I also dispute the notion that Lance cannot be a future piece. As I said, he needs to accept a bench role and be fine playing 30 minutes some nights and 5-10 minutes other nights, but it's good to have a wild card in the deck. Especially if they are going to build a team around jump shooting.

I mean, I am just saying what I would do. But I never, for a second, expected it.

Everybody from the top down is thinking about today. It was clear as day once we know QPon wouldn't be back for a while that they were going with Lance - just like they did Nate Rob last year.

I still think its dumb. But by no means do I ever expect them to change their ways

Lance Stephenson is an NBA player. If not here, he'll be somewhere else. His situation isn't comparable to Nate Robinson last year.
quote:

They aren't 0-5 because of Lance. They're 0-5 because they have 1 real NBA starter getting minutes.

And I don't think the point of keeping Lance was to scrape out a few more wins. It was to have another actual NBA player on the roster.

I'll never agree that putting some scrub out there who shouldn't be in the league is whats best for Buddy's development, or Davis' psyche.

And why Lance? We look at an 0-5 record and wonder who could be out there instead of him. We have 1 real nba starter getting minutes, a few other guys who probably shouldn't even be in the league, and we look at Lance with a side eye?

Guy was a key piece on a team one game away from the Finals. After AD and Jrue, I don't think that anybody else on this roster is talented enough to play for a contender.

Lance's role is to bring in some leadership, be a spark plug, do what's needed, and help hield understand how to be a professional and help be a coach on the floor. He fact he his popping out and setting screens and picks to give buddy good looks with no one in his face to help calm him down and get him used to the pro game speaks everything to me. Just like his willingness to take a foul to show hield and AD he has there back and don't worry about it.
Lance can very much be the guy who has guys loose and relaxed in tough situations but Keeps everyone focused when it's go time. Every team needs it.
