I knew he could shoot, so the biggest takeaways for me is both his play making ability and his passing in short spaces. He's a more well rounded player than previously reported. If his D can follow suit he could be a second banana to AD for sure.

People based their opinions on him playing with scrubs in the D-league. Put him on a team like the Pels where he doesn't have to come in and play hero ball and you've got a nice, young player who can grow into a potential star.

I was a tad disheartened after the summer league but kept telling myself it was him forcing too much. If preseason is any indication, he's gonna be awesome. Hopefully Jrue comes back sooner. Hield, Jrue and AD got me giddy

Surprised by the amount of little leaning jumpshots from just in front of the top of the key. Fun little shot that will help his drives if he can consistently pull up and hit those.

I was wrong about this guy and I'm happy to say that.

Nothing should have been taken from Summer League and nothing should be taken from the preseason.

I know it is hard to sit and wait to see how something plays out, but the first even semi-evaluation and projection for him shouldn't come until January or February - and even that is too soon IMO. You usually know who a player is gonna be after a year and a half and/or 2500 or so NBA minutes played.

He could put up 30 his next two preseason games or put up 0 his next two. Shouldn't matter. Shouldn't make anyone even 1 percent more or less optimistic. Not yet.

the defense all around looks like shite though...
that is and should be very concerning

Even though I was one of his biggest pumpers before we got him, I agree more then disagree with you crewz.

I personally do take some things away from his performances but certainly not too much. Like reading too much into the stats for instance.

What I will take away so far is that his offensive IQ seems pretty solid for a rookie(even a four year one). He doesn't seem to be trying to do too much and he seems to be fairly team orientated on the court. Buying in, clearly putting in a good effort to build a rapport with Davis, which seems to be reflected in his almost effortless passing to him at times.

It looks like I was very wrong (so far) about picking Hield and I couldn't be happier.

Dear sweet baby Jesus, let him be a star!

What the hell else are we supposed to talk about? Isn't a sufficient reason to justify making even the slightest conclusion about a player in my opinion

I am sorry you do not feel that you don't have anything else to talk about and therefore think that makes it wise to draw conclusions over a few meaningless games, but it is not wise.

If he is twrrible next week, should we worry again? Of course not, and I bet you would agree.

The biggest concern with Heild is that he wouldn't give you anything but scoring, and because of his role in college he might be the ball stopping chucker type of volume scorer. I think we've seen enough with the passing and personality to raise his floor beyond promising scorer that will be "just a guy" after someone over pays him on his 2nd contract.

In terms of potential there are reasons to remain optimistic. It's not so much that conclusions are being drawn as much as it is that there is more potential seen in Buddy that initially anticipated. Many of my friends that are just casual fans that know who Buddy is only know him as a scorer. So it's intriguing to the rest of us that follow the game closely to be pleasantly surprised at the potential layers of his game.

He could stink it up for the next ten games as a shooter and still be solid as a playmaker and facilitator that I would still remain optimistic about his future at THIS stage.

Definitely think his floor was elevated after watching him in summer league w/ ball handling responsibilities.

Doesn't mean he maxes out as an all-star or ever becomes even a quality secondary ball handler.

He's still a rookie. There will be definite valleys. It ain't a videogame with clear, linear progression

Michael why do you have to be so dramatic?
the guy looks good in two fake games
if all he was doing was launching that would be one thing but he's showing promise which God knows we are all starved for

he's the only rookie we've had since Davis
Let's enjoy his ups and his downs

I've liked his willingness to pass, particularly to Davis. He found Davis on a nice cut to the rim vs. Dallas. A pass Gordon's never made in his life. And his little dump off to Davis vs Indy for the dunk was nice as well, for multiple reasons. One, that entire drive was made with a pass in mind. He knew the defense was looking for him to shoot, so he gave a quick head fake and made the pass he was looking for all along. Second, Davis was visibly frustrated up to that point and had missed a bunch of easy shots. I think he was 0-6, or something. Buddy passing up an easy jumper to get the best player an easy dunk(when he's struggling) is nice. A mature play.

All in all, the new guys looking to Davis the way they are is a welcomed sight. Through a scrimmage and 2 PS games, I can't remember Davis calling for a ball and not getting it. Something we haven't necessarily seen in the past.

I disagree. You can easily judge and see the potential of players. We all know he can shoot, but we are seeing other areas of his game standing out as well.

It's like Michael Thomas on the Saints for example, I felt confident in saying he would be good. He stood out. Buddy looks to have what it takes to be good player for the Pels. That is something we should be excited about.
