Hat tip to PR for finding some tweets from a Blazers beat writer. LINK the OP speculated maybe it's tied to an Asik/Ezeli swap and that would make some sense. We already had a "the Blazers could use someone like Asik but I'm not taking Meyers Leonard back" discussion here. But that's when the Pels were actually playing Asik and he was being relatively effective.

Ezeli hasn't played all year because of a knee injury and has no time table for return, so you'd have to think if he is being traded it'd be for a guy a team is trying to get rid of.

Here are the tweets on Ezeli

quote:

Joe Freeman ?@BlazerFreeman 20 hours ago

Odd scene in Blazers' locker room: Before leaving, Festus Ezeli approached teammates and exchanged hugs/handshakes. Like he was saying bye.

Blazers are leaving for a 4-game trip Saturday, but it sure seemed like Ezeli was saying bye for good (or extended time) rather than a week.

Festus Ezeli will not be with the Blazers on this four game trip. Agent says it is NOT because of an impending knee surgery.

Again, the Asik angle was speculation from a Pels fan, but it does make some sense for both sides. Ezeli has 1 more year left at $7.4 million so even if he never plays again he's still better for stretching than Asik.

The OP also mentioned Harkless is out with what he called a phantom injury, it's listed as a calf injury. I believe I read a few weeks ago that several of Portland's guys become eligible to be traded the 15th (tomorrow) because of when they were signed.

He's essentially an expiring contract. On PR they are speculating Asik + Hill for Harkless and Ezeli. Don't think I'd do that. I think Hill has a role but I suppose Harkless is the same player just cheaper.

Not sure I would want this. If we traded Asik for Ezeli and Harkless, we would likely have to include Galloway to match salaries. Portland would want something else in the deal as well likely so I can see Demps "throwing in" our #1. Hell no.

Not to mention, this move makes Portland better and our pick more valuable. I don't think he'd be dumb enough to throw in the #1 just for Asik, but he might to undo Asik/Hil which, holy shite how does this dude have a job if he's having to throw 1st rounders at his free agency classes to undo them. fricking hell. There would have to be a 3rd team involved if Hill is in the mix though. Portland doesn't have the cap space to eat Asik and Hill for multiple years.

simply getting asik off the books is a win
festus probably won't play this year but obviously neither will asik, and his contract is a team option for next yr. but isn't Portland already staring at tax payer hell?

I can't imagine them taking on that money unless that have another move coming
I read an article the other day advocating trading McCollum for assets and rebooting a bit for them as lillard and CJ is such a disaster on defense

I would do asik/Hill for expiring ezeli and Harkless in a millisecond.
You've got to be dumb not to. Harkless and Hill are the same guy, pretty much same salary.

harkless would be a clear upgrade on offense and he's only 23
he's also cheaper (signed 4/40 this offseason)

As long as it did not include the draft pick.

Asik/Ezeli is the only trade I can come up with that makes sense. Any trade needs to be relatively present neutral since we are both trying to get the 8 seed. Demps has coveted Hill for a long time, swapping him for Harkless may improve the team in our minds, but probably not in Demps'.

cgrand is right about Portland having money issues to worry about. Asik/Ezeli is the kind of trade you'd see after they do something that moves a guy like Leonard without bringing another big back.

I think we make out like bandits in this deal. Just not sure what the upside for Portland would be.

Maybe contract dumps or they're thinking at least they get guys they can put on the floor.

It's threads like these that make me feel justified when I go out of my way to point out how stupid fans are

A guy says goodbye to his teammates and all of a sudden that becomes evidence of a possible trade that benefits the team you all love so dearly. How convenient!

I mean, you skip over the possibility that he is just out for the season and won't travel or is being bought out. Fine. Then you go to him possibly getting traded. Okay, a reach, but fine.

Then, of all the teams out there, it is of course gonna involve your team-- not one of the other 28. Wow, that's a reach, but fine. And then, on top of all that, he is going to be traded for the one guy you have wanted to dump for years.

Do you see what fandom makes you do? It makes you connect the dots you want to connect. It takes away your logic and replaces it with emotion, and when you try to draw logic from emotion, you guys end up with dumb threads like this leaving you with false hope.

Just when I think you guys can't get any dumber, I see a thread like this. Congrats you guys!
