Just got done watching the game. Austin looked really good. He did predominately drive with his right hand, but he looked damn good doing it and more importantly finishing. Looks like his free throw shooting is still a work in progress, but can't complain too much about 7-11. Overall, I was impressed with his game today.

To put it in perspective:

Austin Rivers first summer league game last year:
31 mins, 3-13 FG, 1-8 3PT , 7-10 FT, -12 differential, 3rebs, 2 assists, 3 steals, 4 TO's, 14pts

2nd summer league game last year:
32 mins 1-6 FG, 0-0 3PT, 2-3 FT, +3 differential, 2 rebs, 5 assists, 1 steal, 2 TO's, 6pts

DNP 3rd, 4th, or 5th summer league game

No one should be saying its just summer league by the way

It's only Summer League. Belineli dropped 40 in his rookie Summer League game...

Summer league isn't really about box scores. You have to watch players and see why they do so well or why they do so poorly. It wasn't just the fack that Rivers put up 23/6/7, it was how he was doing it. Not to mention he played amazing defense that doesn't get put into stat sheets.

Everyone is excited because

A: Rivers shot like 21% last year in Summer League
B. He shot 49/42/52 his last 16 games

So I think it's safe to assume he's improving...

I'm not taking anything away from his performance. I was very impressed. I was just responding to the poster who said don't say it's just summer league because it's a completely different game from the NBA.

I hope this means he is #2 PG. I guess Roberts and Pierre will battle for the last spot.

Rivers potential has always intrigued me, he could be a guy that in a couple of years turns out to be a really good player for us as he has all the tools to succeed he just needs the time.

This could still be a good season for him tho I think, less pressure and less minutes may lead to him just going out and playing instead of being so overwhelmed. Plus it's not hard to improve off the miserable year he had last season.

He played the 1 and the 2. When Roberts was in the game, he was taking the ball up the floor and initiating. When Roberts left the game, Austin moved over to the 1.

I thought he did well playing both spots. He had some nice passes and his court awareness seems to have improved tenfold. He was finding guys for open looks that many guards wouldn't have even noticed were in that spot.

He also seemed to take a bit more time when driving. Last year it seemed like when he would make the decision to drive, 100% of the time he'd head straight to the rim. For at least one game today, he seemed to assess a bit more, whether that be kicking it out to someone else, retreating of nothing was available, or finishing.
