Marc Stein ?@ESPNSteinLine 1m1 minute ago Pelicans announce that Omer Asik is out three weeks with a calf strain. NOT what the Pels needed after losing Alexis Ajinca first
And it continues...

So is Davis starting at Center opening night?
OR...Perkins

Well 3 weeks would put it right around opening night, wouldn't it?

Exactly 3 weeks from today is October 29th, and our first game @ GS is the 27th. So we'll see...

Two of our best centers out. Awesome. Injury bug strikes again.

I would think for GS, if Asik hasn't returned, you could see Perkins get the start simply because of the Bogut factor meaning he'll be there to keep Bogut dirtiness off of AD.

That's one of those injuries that will still be bothersome even after he's cleared.

No injuries to AD, Jrue or Reke. All that matters.
ETA: Gentry should start AD at the 5 in Oakland. Then break out his best "Come at me, bro" face.

That's being very literal with the 3 weeks. And wouldn't that also put Ajinca at 4 weeks, when he has a 4-6 week injury?
I think its a good possibility that at least one of those guys is good to go game 1.

Great news knowing we playing GS 2 of the first 3 games. Start AD at C and play small ball. Asik is no good against GS, neither is Ajinca honestly.

Well yeah, that was the point.

Hopefully, if not we're looking at some heavy minutes for Perkins.

Which would be terrible.
I wonder if they try and bring in another veteran big body to the training camp roster or roll with Jeff Adrien.

I just looked at the NBA's free agent list LINK / and the only available player that didn't seem terrible was Bernard James. Did the Mavs not pick him back up after they got left at the altar? Also, would anyone that's not terrible take essentially a 10 day contract? I assume we're not going to pick up anyone for the rest of the year. Seems like small ball and Jeff Adrien are the likely solutions.
