This one is about Thabo as an option coming to Nola

LINK

From bleacher report about 5 bigs to pair with AD (no mention of Asik)

LINK

Anyway it's just some different articles than bourbon street shots or any other local write up

From reading these and being on PT in the offseason I think I'd be happy if we sign Thabo and trade for Varejao

If everything fell into place I'd love to trade EG for Monroe and sign Ariza (or now nicknamed 'Lord Threeza') while keeping Ryno, AD, Reke, and Jrue at the core but I'm trying to take off my fan hat off and look at things realistically

I find it humorous that this board hated ariza when he was here and now he is our top target

It's a little case of buyers remorse and by little I mean a $9 mil case of buyers remorse

Thabo

He would be a mistake for anything more than the league minimum. He has been unplayable in the playoffs. At this point, he's pethaps not even better than Aminu

when we had ariza we didn't have the guard/scoring options that we have now. it's a huge difference

a complimentary, defensive 3 who can hit 3s (which may just be contract year skewing) fits in our needs and this roster

back when we had one guy who could create his shot (cp3) and a bunch of complimentary scorers, he was way overpaid

Thabo is pretty much the guy we're looking for

He's not too old(30) and hit the 3 and plays great defense.

He also has playoff experience

Won't cost an arm and a leg either

"New Orleans certainly has several areas of need, be it their lack of a true center or their 18th in the league points per game average."

Stopped reading after that. Pelicans were in the top half of the league in offensive rating this year despite all of the injuries. Before Anderson & Jrue went down (start of the season through January 8th), they were 7th in ORtg, right in between the Clippers and Mavericks. Dude clearly hasn't watched the Pels as much as most of us on here.

When did Sefolosha start sucking? I know he hasn't been playing, but I don't really watch the Thunder and didn't realize until the playoffs that he has been bad.

Didn't his percentage fall off dramatically this year?

EDIT: Yes it did, just looked it up on basketball reference, went from 41 to 31%

We hated that Ariza wasn't improving his 3 point shot and now he has. We'd probably start loving Aminu if he could knock down 3s at 40%.

Brooks decided to start Caron Butler over him in Game 6 against the Grizz. I think Thabo picked up a DNP that night. The Grizz just weren't even guarding them. The Spurs did the same thing, which is why they put Reggie Jackson into the starting lineup.

Thabo was fine in the Clippers series iirc

It has and while it may just be a down year, it makes me pretty leery of him. His minutes in the playoffs are down from 26 last year to 17 this season in part because he's shot the 3 so poorly.

bingo even if Aminu could nail 3's at 33% then we would want to keep him even though his defensive isnt specatular

But of course "3 and D" players are not all created equal...Thabo is a better defender (allegedly) and Ariza is a better shooter (i remember Aminu and Ariza's defensive ratings being about the same when they were both here)

Not sure about ratings, but Ariza was a pretty solid defender.

he used to be elite, but i think he's slipping. he's also getting old and was in a contract year. washington is going to overpay for him i'd imagine. watching him light it up in the playoffs almost made me make a thread about him coming back, but...meh

his age is my biggest worry...his salary should reflect that

I really dont want us to get Thabo... I like him . I just dont like him for us.

Hes only shot over 40% from 3pt twice in his entire career. Hes a career 34.8% from 3pt. And the most points he has averaged in his career is 8.5ppg and that was in 2008. And isnt that great at rebounding / passing either.

And yes hes known for his D. But hes already 30years old. And is already showing signs of slowing down on the defensive end IMO. In a year or 2, he will have lost even more.

I like him, but just not for us. And there are other FA SFs that are more enticing. I wouldnt hate the signing of Thabo... but I wouldnt really like it.

BUT.... if we can go out and sign a quality big to put next to AD and then sign Thabo, I would be thrilled. And I wouldnt mind signing a quality 3 and getting a defensive minded C either. Just think we need to get 1 solid player at either the SF / C spot, and can get a defensive minded player at the other spot.

When was Ariza ever "elite"?

I am thinking it would take something like Anderson/Gordon for Monroe/Cap Space/Filler.

That could end up being a win-win IMO.

If the Pelicans can convince some FAs that they want to play with a young core of Holiday, Evans, Davis, and Monroe it would provide for a big time future. I love Anderson being a player on this team, but Davis is the franchise in the front court and Monroe is a big time talent that could possibly be a better fit.

Anderson would be a solid fit for Smith and Drummond. Gordon would compliment Jennings in the backcourt.

I still wanted to see the Holiday, Gordon, Evans, Anderson, and Davis line up more but I don't think our staff thinks it will work long term.

I would obviously trade Gordon for Hibbert though first. If Indy was that upset about their loss.

I don't want thabo. Have you seen what skilled low cost shooters have done for the spurs?
