He seems to have adjusted to the new team on the fly. I know we all wanted to fire the man, but this run towards the end of the season should easily save his job

I'm very hesitant to say keep Gentry because I still feel his style doesn't fit this team. This stretch of games has been refreshing though

I'm just enjoying watching an improved team play.

I cant shake the feeling that what im watching is fools gold.

Just need more of a sample size and im afraid of losing cousins (and AD down the road) if we make the wrong decision.

Let's not get caught up in the excitement of a good stretch. Just because it's not PTAO style, 2-6 followed by 5-1 is still .500 ball. This team has been about a .500 team ever since Holiday returned, 29-32 after a 2-10 start.

They have maintained their good defensive numbers since the trade, currently 5th in DRtg. The offense has picked up slightly since the trade, rated 26th on the season but 22nd since the ASB. Considering that this team is still winning with defense and still has a bad offense despite 2 top scorers in the league, I think the question is are we giving Erman his due. IMO you stick with Gentry unless you're ready to make a serious, JVG or Cal level hire. But the reason you stick with Gentry is the defense which isn't really on Gentry other than he's giving Erman the freedom and authority to make it happen.

10th over this stretch at 110 ORating.

there has been improvement, but i think some of that is fool's gold- shots just going in, March games, bad defense (Nuggets). they are still feeling out what works and doesnt. the process, to me, still isnt great, but that is to be expected at this point. Locked on Pels had a good one Friday breaking down the offense.

Erman has done a great job and he is a very good coach. that they are still good defensively post Cousins has been impressive. do wonder, like with the offense, how much is the xs and os vs the jimmys and joes? some people were ready to run Erman off last year, now...

I'm sure it's a mix. That's part of why I'm willing to overpay Holiday to a point. He is a very key cog in what has become a top 5 defense. Bledsoe's injury history is alarming mixed with this team's injury luck/treatment, but if you add Bledsoe to the mix the offense should improve a bit and the defense could go top 2 and then you're basically the defensive version of what Houston has done.

The integration of Boogie on defense is not too bad in the sense that you can let him guard out on the perimeter when other teams go small with the benefit of AD behind him protecting the rim. He closes out and moves well enough laterally not to be a detriment. You also let him go bang low when teams trot out bigger centers.

Erman has done a great job, but the Rockets dropped 3 pts in drtg from last year (~107 to ~110) while the Pelicans have improved 3 points in drtg (~110 to ~107). Not a coincidence.

When Cousins plays, they are 5-8, with one of those victories coming with Cousins on the bench in the 4th. One of those wins was against a playoff team.

When Cousins doesn't play, they are 3-0, all three against playoff teams.

he's still not a good coach. I've watched too many late game bone headed calls to ever convince me he's a good head coach. I've watched us too many times come out of timeouts with nothing. I've watched us too many times seeing an offense with no flow, expecting AD to bail us out all game. I'll give him that he hasn't got much to work with, but they could be a better team, with a better coach, without a doubt.

Idk but that out of bounds play against the rockets that led to a jrue alley oop was something I haven't seen before

Is that what has been happening though? Seems to me that, though they interchange some, Davis has been on the 4s more often. I don't think they want Cousins on stretch 4s in crunch time

Regardless, Boogies effort on defense so far has eased a lot of doubt. When he's engaged, he can be an awesome defender. If he can sustain this work level, then it will work out very, very well on that end.

No, we are a below .500 team which is where he has been most of his career.

i wonder what a Darren Erman led squad might look like. I hope we get to find out along the way. I have a feeling unless we just FACEPLANT Gentry has done just enough to save his job and not get embarrassed as a weakness in the postseason, which effectively cost Monty his job.

I don't think Gentry is the answer to this team. We are in a tough spot now though. Cousins and his impending free agency really muddy the water.

I agree and let's be honest the only reason we even have any shot at sniffing the playoffs is because this is a strange year with teams at the bottom of the west standings for the playoffs
