He was Chicago's fall back if they didn't get Hoiberg, and for some reason I saw reports of him interviewing in Utah which never made sense the way Utah exceeded expectations.

Demps has this year and a team option. They won't be firing Demps in 3 years, he'd be in the first year of a new deal.
Most of us expect natural player development alone to push us towards the 50 win mark next year even with Monty. AD is one of those players that can drag a bad team to the playoffs, the real test won't be regular season success but postseason success. An area where many of us feared Monty's weaknesses would rear their head the most. Monty's winning % in the playoffs: 2/8 .200 Gentry's: 12/9 .571 Those numbers alone don't tell the whole story, but you feel comfortable enough comparing 43% to 47%, might as well compare 20% to 57%.

Gentry has flaws. Every name we heard has flaws. It's not a 10, but it's not a 2 either. I'm not sure there is a clearly better candidate available.
Gentry seems to align best with what Demps wants. Demps made the hire. He'll live or die by it.
