Anthony Davis, the New Orleans Pelicans forward and MVP of the All-Star game, was turned away from a hip Japanese restaurant in West Hollywood for wearing a team hoodie.

Davis and some of his teammates were barred from entering eatery Katana on Monday night by a doorman who objected to Davis’ Pelicans garb.

...Davis even offered to spend a fortune to rent the private room, but the doorman said, ‘No you can’t come in wearing a hoodie.’ So Davis got back in his SUV and left, and only then did the restaurant manager come running out, freaking out at the doorman.”

Maybe this only happens in movies and TV, but shouldn't they have a spare sports coat to loan the guy willing to rent the private room?

LOL the doorman just lost that business a lot of money and top management had no say in turning Davis away.
Thats gonna have to come out the doormans check. For the next year probably...

Seriously though, who wears a hoodie to a nice restaurant.? And athletes shouldn't get special treatment - if you let AD in with a hoodie, you need to let everyone off the street in wearing a hoodie.

I know the owner of a very popular local bar (re: not a club) that wouldn't let Jay-z or Spike Lee in (separate occasions) because Jay-Z was wearing a flatbill and Spike Lee...he just didn't want there.

Probably forever. Wouldn't be surprised if the doorman got the axe with the quickness

Why? Because he enforced a restaurant policy and didnt know a special exception should be made to a person claiming to be a basketball player. AD is famous but he's not recognizable to everyone.

Because he didn't check with the manager before turning them away. If someone comes with a special exception then the manager should be making that call not a doorman.

Ultimate lol

"Claiming" to be a basketball player?

Just a bunch of 7 foot dudes in team gear willing to buy out the restaurant. Guys could be frauds though.

Assuming we know the restaurant's policy. If the manager has informed the staff that these are the rules for people to enter their establishment, then those are the rules.

Now if the manager said "these are the rules, but we will make exceptions for famous athletes and celebrities," then the doorman should have gotten the manager.

For all the doorman knew, and this is me assuming this, there was a person claiming to be someone who might not be who they say they were. Then the doorman gets in trouble or fired for not following restaurant policies.

Assuming such a policy was in place.

That's a pretty common solution in most restaurants.

This is Los Angeles. I'm sure the number of people trying to impersonate celebrities to get free stuff happens routinely.

They easily could be, so it's hardly an..."ultimate lol"

Because he rejected a team of multimillionaires that are obviously famous basketball players. These obviously famous basketball players run in circles of other rich and famous people and word of mouth is extremely important in business. And not only did he do this all because of a hoodie, but without the consent of the owner. I'll add in that he probably did this to feel powerful

ETA: the "rules are rules" thing rarely applies. Welcome to earth
