Not a big solo guy, but I've always loved Noel's extended solo at the end of Champagne Supernova.

Dream Theater - Best of Times

Entire song because no epic solo is good without an intro.

Def Leppard (Phil Collen) - Photograph

From my favorite song, album and group, too.

Phil is lighting fast and clean. Extremely nice and humble guy off the stage. Met him a few times in Houston.

might not be top, but this is up there. lots of other big guitarists cite this solo as a masterwork of tone and phrasing

Dokken - The Hunter

Also, 2 from Marty Friedman

Lucretia

For some reason I have always loved Joe Perry's solo on Aerosmith's "Crazy." Especially the very beginning.

Apparently the Photograph solo was his audition for the band. They think it may have been the first take that made it onto the final record - he only did 2 or 3 takes, total.

Hendrix explicitly stated to a member of Chicago (ETA: Walt Parazaider, saxophone), "Your guitar player is better than me."

I would have had that put on my tombstone.

This is really a hard one. There are so many great solos. I'm going to go off the reservation a little bit with my answer. This is John Butler doing Gonna Take It off the Grand National album. The solo starts around 2:30 but it's worth listening to the whole song if you haven't heard it.

Would really like to hear what you guys think of this. I think it's amazing.

Grateful Dead - Morning Dew 5/8/77

David Gilmour - Fat Old Sun Live in Gdansk

For me, the best solos demonstrate tone and emotion. I don't care if it's not fast or clean as long as it conveys power and feeling.
