Where do you like to go to live it up?

Personally been a fan of One Eyed Jacks for a little while now. Not too large if a place which makes for a better atmosphere imo.

One Eyed Jacks and the Varsity are both great but both suffer from a-hole security.

Alabama is terrible for venues, but Tuscaloosa is always nice.

Red Caboose In Elkmont,Alabama, it's usually successful songwriters,in a relaxed atmosphere,90 miles south of Nashville.
I live 200 miles away now,and don't get in there as often a I would like.

Too many great venues in Texas to pic just one....or even 10. If I list the Dallas venues I like.....

Three Links- very small with the best sound system in Dallas. A guy that was a drummer in several good local bands including Slick 57 started the place when he married into money. He has since sold it. They have a lot of up and coming bands and really obscure bands......i.e. The Donkeys, The Eagulls, Legendary Pink Dots who i saw there last weekend. They get bonus points for having an extensive craft beer selection.

Kessler- Old movie Theater- small place 500 people maybe and has big name country/americana acts...Hays Carl, Alejandro Escovedo....Al lives in Dallas now....says he came here for a temporary job his wife had and fell in love with Big D. The owners of Kessler are developing an old theater in Houston as a music venue.

Grenada- Similar to kessler in that it is an old Theater but they have everything from metal to bluegrass and have a 1000 person capacity....I've seen Built to Spill, Dinosaur Jr, Beck, Trampled by Turtles and countless other bands there. Bonus points since I can ride my bicycle there in about 10 minutes....its slightly uphill all the way there but I can coast all the way home with a buzz.

Trees- Dallas institution, about 500 capacity. Really great venue.

Dada- another Dallas institution....saw Sturgill Simpson there about a month after he broke big. He had already booked the show and he honored his commitment.

Bomb Factory- another legendary dallas venue that closed a few years ago but reopened last year. 2-3000 capacity. They have big touring bands...i've seen The National and Spoon there.

Honorable Mention- The Goat- Huge Blues scene, always free, great dive bar with characters you would never guess live in DFW......its the anti-Dallas bar.

Tabernacle, Georgia Theatre, and The Earl. Love the Masquerade and agreed, I'll be sad to see it go but I'm not a fan of shows in Heaven. Terminal West is a great venue too.

Tabernacle, Masquerade and the Loft. I will definitely miss the old Masquerade, but I'm stoked to see what they do with the new one.

NOLA - Orpheum and Civic. Have really enjoyed our city getting theaters that can accommodate mid-level capacity shows.

The Parish in Austin. Nothing special about its design or appearance, BUT their set up sounds AMAZING. by far one of the better venues i've been to sonically. i've seen many acts there, and the last show i saw there was LOW, it was amazing.

Damn. That's tough. I'm not quite sure I can single it down to one for Tennessee. Here are a few of my personal favorites...

The Volcano Room at Cumberland Caverns (McMinnville)
The Ryman (Nashville)
Exit/In (Nashville)
The Basement (Nashville)
The Orpheum Theatre (Memphis)
Track 29 (Chattanooga)

Birmingham has Saturn, Workplay, and Iron City. All good venues to see a show. Alabama Theatre is nice, but the sound kind of sucks in there.

Tuscaloosa has the amphitheater, which is one of the nicest amphitheaters I've ever been to.
