Watching the Rock n Roll hall of fame and he wouldn't perform with his bandmates in Journey. He looks great and could pass for 20 years younger but he refuses to perform with them? Not even for old time sakes at the award show? They had to get the Filipino cover band guy to sing. What a douche.

I know there was some bad blood but c'mon man. What an a-hole move. I can't understand why these guys can't bury the hatchet. A reunited Journey with Steve Perry would be a huge draw on the road.

It's a business, just like any other business. If you had bad dealings with past bosses or partners, would you want to be around them? Especially when arguments over money is involved?

I think I could such it up for a short interaction like this. Whole tour could be a different story

It's like any other legendary band. You have to consider the colossal egos involved.

That being said, it's one fricking night. It wouldn't kill you to play nice for an hour or two.

By contrast , in same situation YES had Jon Anderson sing along with a mashup of past performers who seemed to have fun. I wonder if Steve even still has it anymore.

As of a couple years ago he did.

Based on the last time I heard him sing he was doing the general public a favor.

Same way I felt when Chicago was inducted last year. I know Cetera doesn't care to tour much and the band sure in the hell isn't going to ask him back but it's one night dude... 25 or 6 to 4 and one other maybe. Don't even play bass if you don't want. One night and you'll never have it back.

Eddie and Alex Van Halen did that crap with DLR so Sammy and Mikey accepted. I've always said if you can't get along with Sammy, you're probably and a-hole.

Right before the induction, I'd read interviews from both Perry & Schon where they said they'd reconnected and reminisced at length with each other, and it was a positive experience. Perry also bonded with Journey's current singer, and by all accounts there were no awkward moments between anyone. I think it simply came down to whether Perry believed he could cut it onstage that night, and he probably thought he couldn't...

Isn't his throat messed up and he can't sing anymore?

Lets just say if a tour is like a marathon, and Steve was an all time runner in his day, based on the wear and tear, he'd still kill it in the 5k, be average in a 13.1, and embarrass himself trying to go 26.2. Even the new Asian Perry has had vocal issues from stress.

That said it'd be great to see them do a festival or 2 with enough time in between for Steve's vox to rest.

You're assuming Steve is the problem. Maybe the problem is Neal Schoen????

Listen to Perry at the RARHOF...hell, even his regular speaking voice was crackling on him. Maybe one day he'll take the check and go back on the road with Journey, but I don't think he had the right stuff (on that particular evening, anyway)...

There's are some "what ifs";

Can SP actually hit the notes again (I doubt due to father time)?

Is he physically able to do a full tour?

Would NS make everyone "equals" pay wise or would he make them hired guns?

Most of this falls in line with what I have heard, i.e. voice is shot.

I admire Steve Perry for walking away from the stage when he knew he no longer had the voice of his prime, unlike Don Dokken and so many others.

If you're gonna keep singing after your voice has obviously faded, change your style ala Chris Cornell who has gone to a more stripped down acoustic style rather than hard rock so he doesn't have to scream all the time.

I read that interview also because I was wondering what the deal was too
evidently shon and perry haven't even spoken for years
but he did know Perry was coming and they spoke for a while before the show, and shon certainly sounded like there was no hatchet to bury on his end, at least now

I thought the emotions on stage were genuine and I guess it's up to Perry if he will ever sing with him again. I get that shon and the others want to play but the pseudo Perry they ar using is just tacky

I dunno. You gotta figure Steve Perry is set for life. I don't think he had a drug problem or multiple ex-wives, the sort of shite that gobbles up money. I respect guys that don't want to deal with shite because they don't need the money. That's why Robert Plant hasn't toured with Jimmy Page, or Roger Waters and David Gilmour don't work together or The Smiths haven't reunited. If I had Steve Perry's dough, I would rather be at a Giants game and not backstage of an arena in Kansas or wherever with a bunch of guys I can't stand.

In the videos of him singing with the Eels, he's not singing in original keys. He definitely took those songs down a few notches. Didn't seem like he has the range anymore.

That whole acceptance scene seemed awkward. It looked like Schon, Valory, Dunbar, Cain, and Rolle were sitting together when they went on stage and Perry just kind appeared up there. They all spoke nice but didn't look like they were feeling the love. I read something a few weeks ago that Perry didn't want to make it awkward for the current lead singer. I think that's a bunch of BS. I think the feud is still there and that he could sing well enough if he decided he wanted to. If they couldn't make it happen at this event, it aint gonna happen. Sad too because Journey is one of my all time favorites. That crowd was jacked in anticipation of him singing too.
