You may not like all their songs, but it's difficult to deny that they're all incredibly talented musicians.

I don't particularly care for DMB, but I do recognize that he and his band are very talented and appeal to millions. I know people that travel to see him much like fans do for Phish and did for the Grateful Dead.

This board likes to hate on all things popular. Most of the frequent posters are too cool for school.

Wait until this weekend and next week after Adele's new album is released. People will be bending over backwards to say how she's "ok", "pink is better", and "oh my god she sucks!".

The butt hurt will be strong.

I am a DMB fan. I do know that some people have a distaste for long winded jams, unique song structure, and like the above poster mentioned, Dave's voice. You cannot deny the talent in that group though. Jeff Coffin is a world-class saxophone player, Carter Beauford is an elite level drummer, the list goes on.

Dave is my only detraction from their music. I thoroughly enjoy the crunchy jamz

This should answer your question
DMB

DMB are a "jam" band that doesn't jam.
The fans...

It all starts off in the lot when me and my boys are in a circle poundin’ Busch Lights while were blastin’ Ants Marching from my new Jeep Grand Cherokee. Ya my Jeep is white and i know it gets dirty easily but frick it, the bitches love that shite. As we pass around our fat fricking bottle of Absolute Strawberry, we just scope out hotties while we try to ward off all other loser Chads, as the bitches flock to my Jeep like a fricking watering hole in the desert. S****. Me and my Bro’s don’t even head in until the 3rd song. As we walk in I stick in a fatty dip of grizzly bear and simultaneously smoke a cig and drink the rest of my warm Busch light. So were in the show. We start just pushing our way to the front. Lights. Dave. Black dude on drums. Jesus on Saxophone. S****. By this point every song sounds just the fricking same as the other one. But I know Dave is fuggin killin’ it anyways. I grab this girl next to me and we makeout for a solid 15min during Crash Into Me. I finally push that b**** off and low and behold some other s*** starts grabbin my a**. After that I head to the bathroom with my bros and wait in line for 20 mins. We head back to our spot and some jackass is standing there. I’m about to bust his ugly Ted Danson lookin’ face in, but before I can he whips out a joint and offers me and my crew to smoke up. He tells me he’s there watching his daughter and her friends that are all in high school. Next thing I know I wake up in my Jeep with my d*** hanging out of my zipper. Now this has happened to me before so it doesn’t even phase me. I just pop in a sick 03’ Dave CD and fricking cruise home.

TreyIsAJedi
The best version of any DMB song hands down. Trey Anastasio takes Lie In Our Graves to another level.

One of the worst insults that can be leveled at a rock band is that they sound "professional".

Dave Matthews Band is one of the most professional sounding bands ever. Everything's so pat, so clean, so scrubbed and sanitized of anything interesting or exciting.

In rock and roll, "talent" is one of the most insidious agents of boredom that there is.

He's like John Mayer to me. Don't particularly like his music, but appreciate how good he is.

His guitar playing is crazy. I OWN a guitar but can't play for shite so somebody else back me up or tell me I'm wrong. His rhythm guitar he plays is lead guitar difficult and he is singing playing which amazes me. Like Jim Croce. Croce played some hard shite while singing and the little quiet dude was always there playing the harder stuff. Like Dave when he plays with Tim Reynolds (I believe). They are both playing a lead guitar worthy part, but the singers is just a little easier.

John Mayer plays circles around Dave Matthews. Mayer models himself after Stevie Ray Vaughan

Rock is supposed to have some level of grit. I'll be the first to admit I like a little raw sound better than polished, I don't watch particular groups necessarily for their musicianship

I don't disagree.

I was just speaking to the fact that they both annoy me, I appreciate watching them both play guitar.

This is the problem for me. The music is fine, just can't get past Dave's voice.

I loved DMB for a while, but in high school and early college years it just got shoved down your throat constantly by the group of friends I had. It was literally all they listened to for years. I just got way too burnt out.

I like DMB. I can get why some wouldn't care for daves voice, but instrumentally I love the sound they create. My favorite Dave song is probably don't drink the water - from the Central Park concert

Two Step from that concert is my favorite song of theirs. I wish Butch Taylor still played with them.

I dont know why youre getting down votes. Mayer is a better guitar player than dave matthews, anyone who disagrees knows absolutely nothing about how to play music in any sense. Carter and Stefan are tight as hell as is jeff and ross. I love the group and don't understand the hate other than jealousy of a band getting big.
