Plastic Ono Band is very good, but I am wondering, in your opinion, why it stands out as best among solo and group albums from the Beatles? Not bashing, just curious.
Shortly before recording POB John had gone through "Primal Scream" therapy, and he used the album as an outlet for the various feelings the therapy had released. As a result it has an emotional power unmatched by The Beatles, and by few others in popular music.

Not that emotion is enough in itself -- as the saying goes, Technique Without Passion is Decadence, and Passion without Technique is Propaganda. But in my opinion JL on POB was able to channel the various chips on his shoulder -- such as his mother's death -- through his songwriting abilities to create a work that few albums, and certainly none by the other Beatles, can approach for visceral impact.

I don't agree with this at all. Jet, Junior's Farm and Uncle Albert are played on lots of "Classic" formats. I don't even like Maybe I'm Amazed.

That's the beautiful thing about music...one man's shite is another's bread and butter.

Reading comprehension, folks. He said "meaningful" not "best" or "the one I liked the most".

The answer to this question is George. I'd rate John a distant but not TOO distant second, and McCartney and Ringo tied for last.

This said, I guess it depends on how you define "meaningful".

There are some major splitting of hairs in this thread.

Solo, they all showed what they brought to the most prolific and talented group. Solo, they painfully showed their shortcomings (as the razor was the whole).

Probably the artistic fear Lennon and McCartney had of Harrison, became the most patent.

I totally agree. I'm not a huge John fan but I do love POB and you're right, the raw emotion does really show.

John was my personal favorite. I love that album. "God" off that album is one of my favorite songs of all time.

It seems like Paul was the most prolific and had maybe more accessible themes. He also survived the longest out of the big three so that has to play a roll in the amount of material that he put out.

Let's star another thread, but let it be about KISS. I got Ace with Paul last.

"Meaningful" is a meaningless word in this context Paul had the most commercially successful career

No doubt Paul grabbed the pop audience, but I like George's material best overall. He even did an electronic album that most people have never heard...
