Top 10

Ranking the cream of the crop is way to subjective to say any more. Others in that group include Geddy Lee, Victor Wooten, John Entwistle, and Flea. John Paul Jones has an argument, but his real value is in his versatility on multiple instruments.

This was one of my favorite shows I've ever attended. A killer set.

I can get down with this list. I would also include a few metal guys such as Steve Harris, Justin Chancellor, Steve Digiorgio, and John Myung. Most of these guys are more technically proficient than they are soulful but they are still masters of their craft.

I would contend that Claypool has the most "powerful" bass sound in music.

Yeah, he's top 10. I would also include Stanley Clark in that crowd. I wouldn't include flea. He's really good for his genre and what he does, but flea doesn't jump out at me as a virtuoso type.

He's definitely talented, but his music is almost unlistenable to these ears...

Mike Watt, for my money, on the bass...

I'd put him first considering that he is the main song writer for most of the bands he is in. Most bass players aren't their groups primary songwriter.

Claypool has written some awesome songs, Mud, Southbound Pachyderm, American Life, Big Brown Beaver ect.
