Was daydreaming about taking our band and touring around the southeast today. We're all Louisiana guys, so outside of New Orleans/Laffy/Baton Rouge we don't know too much.

What are some good places for original music around those parts? I know Athens is known for a good scene but I probably couldn't name more than 3 decent venues outside the state.

Auburn .. Bourbon Street, Sky Bar Cafe

Atlanta .. Smith's Olde Bar (2 rooms), The Loft (3 rooms), Terminal West (a hot spot right now). Variety Playhouse and Buckhead Theater are a bit bigger than those, Tabernacle quite a bit bigger.

Athen's .. 40 Watt, The Foundry. My son's band in Athens played GA Theatre, General Beauregard's and Stonewall's

Zydeco's in Birmingham?

Orange Peel Theatre, Asheville. Outside SEC country, but close enough.

Terminal west by far the best small venue in Atlanta right now. They threw a free imagine dragons show on the snow day this year. Usually hit at least a show a month there. Smiths olde bar is a fun time too.

Was coming to post this.

Gonna go see Peter Hook and his band play some Joy Division next month at the peel.

Agreed.

Festival scene in Atlanta is also good this Spring .. 420 Fest was excellent. Shaky Knees not my bands nor Shaky Boots, but good lineups for those who like those genres.

Candler Fest is free (or $10 guaranteed admission, $40 VIP) for Drive-by Truckers, Shovels and Rope and SCOTS. That'll work for me.

And if folks are throwing Asheville, NC into the mix, I'll say Ziggy's in Winston-Salem. I suspect Lincoln Theater in Raleigh, though I've never been there.

Good info. Anyone know anything about other college town music venues like Oxford, Tuscaloosa, etc.?

shite if we are going outside the SEC, but in the south add The National in RVA to the awesome place to see a show list.
