I've been on a thrash kick lately and got to thinking of my favorite thrash albums of all time. Feel free post your list/recommendations.

No particular order:

Sepultura - Arise
Metallica - Kill Em All
Slayer - Reign in Blood
Nailbomb - Point Blank
Exodus - Bonded By Blood

I would be hard-pressed to condense a list to ten albums, let alone five.

Exodus - Bonded By Blood

I have tried to love this album, but I just find myself gravitating to the works of other Bay Area thrash bands like Death Angel, Heathen, and Testament.

If we are talking about thrash specifically from the 1983-1994 and if I am forced to limit one album per band then I guess I would take:

Metallica - Ride the Lightning (more evil than Master of Puppets and a huge step up from their debut)

Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss (personally, I think this kicks Reign in Blood's arse as an entire album)

Sepultura - Beneath the Remains (I prefer the guitar work here over Arise)

Megadeth - Rust in Peace (probably the weakest record on this list in terms of quality per song, but its best can measure up to the best of any metal record)

Annihilator - Alice in Hell (very underrated record from Canada's best thrash group)

I like South Of Heaven better than either.

So,

South Of Heaven
Peace Sells, But Who's Buying
Kill Em All
Among The Living
Reign In Blood

You can't go wrong with any of the classic trio. That opening riff is about as brutal as you get.

Other than the big hitters like Reign in Blood and the Metallica... what would be the one quintessential thrash album I MUST LISTEN TOO?

TIA

Seasons and Reign in Blood are very close in my opinion. I could flip flop them every other day.

Any Sepultura fans enjoy Nailbomb?

I'd vote one of the mentioned Sepultura albums, Arise or Beneath the Remains. Although I'm partial to Sepultura (hence my user name).

Any thrash fan should listen to:
-First five Slayer records (plus the EP Haunting the Chapel)
-First four Metallica records
-First five Anthrax records
-First four Megadeth records
-Sepultura's only three "true" thrash albums (Schizophrenia, Beneath the Remains, and Arise)
-First three Testament records
-First five Overkill records
-First three Exodus records
-Annihilator's Alice in Hell and Never, Neverland
-First two Flotsam and Jetsam records
-Suicidal Tendencies' crossover How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today and Lights...Camera...Revolution
-Sodom's Persecution Mania and Agent Orange
-First five Kreator records
-Demolition Hammer's Tortured Existence and Epidemic of Violence
-Supergroup S.O.D.'s Speak English or Die

That should be a good start for you.

While Possessed is borderline, Entombed is death metal 100%. However, Swedish death metal is known for implementing thrash-style riffs.

Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales

I tried to purchase this on eBay but I was outbid. It's their only album I would care to own.

Upvote for mentioning Agent Orange - criminally underrated.

Particularly those drums. It's almost like you are listening to a death metal record.

This only reminds me how much Robert Trujillo has wasted his talents in his post Suicidal Tendencies/Infectious Grooves career.
