While the rhythm of this song is kind of up-beat, the message is pretty sad:

Baby Blue. George Strait

I know Strait lost a daughter but I never thought of this song being about that. The lyrics seem more like a lost love. But I just checked out wiki and it does say its probably about that.

This song literally came on the radio when I was on the way to the hospital to find out that my father had died.

I was going to say that one. Probably one of my top 5 favorite songs ever.

Hard to get all the way through this one. One of the greatest female voices ever in country music.

Here's a dope fiend's lament by Love, a song covered by Jack White and others. It's about the band's drummer, guy who fell off the deep end. That 8-second harmonica riff in the middle rips the guts, funny how such a short riff can do that. A good tune to play when you run out of powdered friends and helpers:

Patty Loveless' "How Can I Help You Say Goodbye" is just as good.

"Ashokan Farewell" played under a reading of Sullivan Ballou's letter to his wife before he was killed in the first battle of Bull Run. From the Ken Burns Civil War documentary. It's just ... sweet Jesus ...:

Taps

But it's more for what it represents than the song itself.
