Nice documentary about Bobby.

Even though I don't listen to jambands much any longer, the Dead still played such a pivotal point in my life (I would have never met my wife without the Dead). Maybe that's the reason I enjoyed this documentary so much, but I think it would probably be pretty interesting for just about anybody. My favorite part (other than reminiscing about tour back in the day from the footage) was seeing all the current rock badasses who spoke glowingly off Bobby and his unique rhythm guitar style.

Anyway, check it out if you haven't already.

Literally just watched it. really enjoyed it, and it really made me want to listen to some dead. Like you, I grew up listening to the dead, and they have always been one of those bands that I can always turn to, even though I've diverted away from the jam scene as of late.

Bob comes across as a really sincere, down to Earth, and extremely bright guy. Thoroughly enjoyed it. His wife is a fricking fox, too.

ETA: His recollections of Cassaday and the perfomance at the Giza Pyramids were awesome. Not to mention his relationship with Jerry. I do wish there had been more about other members, but obviously this was about Bobby.

Watched it a couple of nights ago and enjoyed it. I always thought he was underrated with everybody focusing on Garcia.

It was interesting seeing him wandering around at one of the Baton Rouge festivals that Ratdog played in the late 90's. Ratdog was pretty awful, maybe it was the terrible acoustics.

loved it.
I thought the segment with his daughters was weird. It was like they didn't even know his story.

I remember at one of the Bonnaroos he had his daughter on stage. His trophy wife was hanging out side stage. I think they met when she was like 15 backstage.

Yeah. It talked about that. She was 15. They were supposedly just "friends" for years while he was on tour. She'd come backstage with her friends and hangout, and he was like an "older brother." She said that she'd be on the couch in his room, and he'd have older girls back in the bedroom.

I'm a little suspicious that that isn't exactly how it all went down, but they seem happy now.

I really enjoyed it too. I listened to the Dead all along, but it didn't really click for me until 3 or 4 years ago. Now, a majority of music I listen to is Grateful Dead. So, I don't know their whole history inside and out.

I loved Bill's story about them working in the strip club and the girls complaining about their 15 minute songs.

I finally got around to watching it, and really enjoyed it. I have been fortunate enough to meet him, and "hang out" with him on several occasions. A former co-worker was involved with GD Promotions, so we got the opportunity to meet him a few times backstage, and then I hung out with him for the majority of the weekend at Merlefest years ago (that's a whole other story ). He's a character, that's for sure. He's either really on, or really off (in his playing and in conversation.) but i'll always have great admiration for Weir, and he's highly underrated. I thought he came off really well and articulate, and the director did a great job.

I thought it was interesting how they depicted Garcia prior to In the Dark, and afterwards. They implied he wasn't actually the central focus of the band up until that point (in the eyes of the masses). That's the first I've heard of that. Maybe I need to go back and watch it again.

The strip club scene, the footage from Egypt, Neil's story, and hell-even Sammy's explanation of Bobby's unique rhythm playing was all great. Above all though, I thought it was great seeing him just walking around his neighborhood with his dogs just completely at peace. Hopefully we'll get a lot more music out of the old guy.

I took it as him saying that In the Dark took them from having a cult following, to a massive cult following in which Jerry's stigma grew to ridiculous heights since he was the main focus of the band.

Yeah, I just re-watched it and agree with you. I was watching this and reading a magazine at the same time, and it came across differently the first viewing.
