Ok. I clicked on an ACL episode tonight on MTVL cause I saw Band of Horses(who is decent) in the title. The first act is a band called the national who seems to have a decent following as an indie band in the 2000s.

This shite is terrible. The lead singer is terrible. The band is terrible. Do any of you fricks like this shite?

Like five posts down there is a two-page thread on the National. So as great as this thread was for starting a dialogue, not sure it was needed.

Okay. Seriously. I didn't check the page for threads because there is no way anyone likes this shite and no way anyone would care about a new album.

I apologize for not seeing the thread below. I'm honestly flabbergasted at this coincidence. Im also terrified for anyone who listens to this shite and enjoys this.

You're clearly a knowledgeable music fan with your thumb on the pulse of the current state of indie music.

In all seriousness, I don't understand how anyone can have this averse of a reaction to a band that's not exactly controversial or weird. Pretty standard baritone singer with a downtempo, ambient sound and good lyrics. I mean, we aren't talking Cory Feldman and the Angels here.

They're pretty great actually. You should maybe take up another pastime. Music appreciation is obviously not your strong suit.

The National is one of the best live shows I have seen in the past 5 years.

I actually like The National. But I respect you for:

I can understand not liking Patrick Stickles voice... but jeezus. Most Lamentable Tragedy is freaking genius with a HUGE variety of songs. I can understand disliking The National's sound, because they maintain the same sound on every song. TA is all over the place in their sound (although earlier albums are pretty consistently garage punky sounding).

See, that's what I'm talking about. TA widely beloved (on here, it's not like they're rabidly popular in the outside world), but I just don't find the music enjoyable at all.

First The National, then Titus Andronicus......I'm just waiting for someone to come in this thread and talk about how the Dismemberment Plan sucks.

Turnpike Troubadours
Deslondes
Fleet Foxes
John Moreland
Sturgill

I listen to a wide variety of music even though that list may not demonstrate it. I can recognize good music even if I don't like it. The national musically is okay but the lead singer kills any redeeming quality the band may have. Little Wayne has a better voice. In fact little Wayne and the national would be much better than what they have now.

Their cover of Terrapin Station and whole work putting the Day of the Dead album together is pretty impressive.

The over-the-top criticism is a bit much to basically say you don't like the singer.

Matt Berninger has one of my favorites voices in music. I guess different strokes and all that.

This is my first time checking out the music boards. Posts like this have me worried.

Afraid of Everyone? Bloodbuzz Ohio? The System Only Dream in Total Darkness? These are great songs. Matt Berninger is an awesome and unique vocalist.

FWIW I also love Titus Andronicus so my opinion might not add up to much.
