Those first Cars and Police albums were just heralding the coming decade. Those were released in those overlap years where the Seventies slowly morphed into the Eighties. Both of those bands are so identified with the Eighties it is hard to believe that they even released anything in the Seventies.

By far, The Cars made their best music in the 70's. I consider them more a 70's band, but maybe you had to be there. The Police OTOH really exploded in the 80's. Neither are 70's classic rock, but The Cars hit so hard in the 70's I couldn't help mention them, albeit with the disclaimer about them being too New Wavish.

That may be so. It's not my favorite either, but that's not what the thread is about.

There's no denying that it embodies that 70s Classic Rock sound

Limiting it to one song per band and going for best commercial appeal, not necessarily best or favorite song?

I'll keep adding as I think.

Stairway - Led Zeppelin
Foreplay/Longtime - Boston
The boys are back in town - Thin Lizzy
Bad Company - Bad Company
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
Miss You - Rolling Stones
Don't do me like that - Tom Petty
Summertime - Mungo Jerry
Won't get fooled again - The Who
Layla - Derek and the Dominos

You need to listen to it while on Reds, Trees, Ludes, or some combination of above. Much better.

The Rick Derringer version of "Rock and roll hoochie coo" has a fantastic bass track.

I actually like that version too. I saw Rick Derringer with the McCoys years ago in BR.
