I love some of his stuff, although I'm not a Fan. The thing I like most admire about Young is his ability to do things his way, with (apparently) very little compromise. He writes, records and plays what moves him without much concern for critical acceptance--and he's had a highly successful career following this path. That's a hell of an accomplishment in the pop music business.

The great songs that he's written don't really require a commanding voice to sing them. He is without a doubt one of the best songwriters of the last 50 years in my opinion.
He is also one of the most underrated guitar players of his generation. "Cortez the Killer" is still one of my favorite guitar songs of any genre.

Underrated guitar player. Some of his acoustic tracks were great.
Speaking of tracks, he's an avid model train guy. A weird sidenote of his career was helping to save the Lionel Train Co.

One of the best. Great song writer and a true original. His voice bugged me at first but I've been fine with it for decades now. He has written some truly beautiful melodies, may well be the GOAT at that.

One of the all-time greats, and I'm sure his peers would also hold him in that high regard.

I am more of a fan of his earlier works than the later ones. "Harvest" should be on anyone's top 10 album list.

He is one of the best song writer/ musicians of all times, IMO. Just like every musician there are songs that I can't stand of his but the majority is top shelf. He has a wide range of guitar styles, from slow acoustic to hard jams and is very underrated as a rock n roll guitarists. Not the best voice but it's unique and works. He's top 10.

Neil Young is a badass and still to this day his performance at 2009 Jazz Fest is one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life.

Love Neil Young. Old Man and Needle and the Damage Done are brilliant. I used to listen to Harvest for hours on end.

Neil Young is arguably the greatest rock n roll artist of all time. He is talented, prolific, almost completely immune to trend and public pressure, and has outlasted just about everyone and is still putting out interesting music.
He's the man.
He's the man.

neil young amazes me. While I am not a fan of some of his newer stuff, he has put out quite the catalog of a variety of things. The only person that exceeds the diversity is david bowie.
But anyway, he gets lot of hate for his guitar playing. I do think its a bit unwarranted. his verve is amazing.

I generally like his music. However I lose interest when during interviews he bad mouths the US in his liberal socialist ideas, as Canadians who make their living in the U.S. are wanton to do..

I am a huge fan . I think his catalogue can be a little hit or miss for my personal tastes but his best work (and he has a boatload) can go against any artist out there. He's a legend and an icon. I loved that Jonathan Demme doc Heart of Gold that was shot at Ryman. It totally captured what makes him great.

I love the man. Great songwriter and one of the best guitar players ever. He's done everything from country to proto-grunge, to folk music to soul music. His catalog is as deep as the ocean, plus there are tons of great half-finished songs in the vaults.
He's a real artist, like Dylan, Bowie, Prince...he's made some amazing stuff, and he's made garbage when the muse took him the wrong way. But he always was out there doing his shite, not content to keep on remaking the same records.
I finally saw him at Jazz Fest in 2009. I'm still pissed I didn't go see him at UNO in 1991 (the only person I knew at the time who was in to Neil Young decided to buy tickets to see Rush Limbaugh speak. I should have just gone on my own). And I really regret not seeing him with Crazy Horse at Voodoo Fest in 2012, although that was a couple of weeks before my wedding and I had originally planned to do my bachelor party around then)
Cinnamon Girl is one of my three favorite songs of all time. Love to Burn, I'm the Ocean, After the Gold Rush, Scattered, No More (which has one of the greatest solos ever), Too Far Gone, Old Man...he did a ton of great songs.
