Well this wasn't meant to necessarily name the greatest band ever. Just the board's favorite out of these 10.
I already had a new list in mind when this one ended. It was gonna be 90s-themed: Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, Matchbox Twenty, etc

A ranking would serve the same purpose and would be lots less confusing.

I'm enjoying the shite out of this game. Did you come up with this idea yourself?
I am blown away by Trey's lack of appreciation of Dylan though. I am the same way for the Beatles though, don't care for them one bit.

He doesn't seem to realize that without Dylan, Phish wouldn't exist.
ETA: And no I didn't come up with it, I stole it from a music site.

Explain to me how a prog rock jam band wouldnt exist without a folk singer. And don't tell me the Dead wouldn't have happened with out Dylan.

First of all, his three masterpiece albums are all rock albums, not folk. He left the folk scene quite early in his career.
Before Dylan it was moon and june, lets go dancing baby. Look at any supposedly great rock artist before Dylan. He invented confessional lyrics in rock. He invented the stream of consciousness in rock. For frick's sake he invented ambiguity. Deep, complex lyrics did not exist before him. He made it acceptable. He showed that it could be done. Every artist after him has followed his lead.
The Beatles later albums which influenced all of rock were a direct result of trying to reach Dylan's heights of songwriting. Lennon and McCartney have said so themselves numerous times. Every band that came after him, either indirectly or directly, took their cues from Dylan.
He is modern music. All of modern music would be so unrecognizably different without him.
Before Dylan, people only listened to rock music to dance. That's all it was good for, dancing. Dylan created the first ever rock music that was worth LISTENING to. He changed everything about it, forever.

I completely disagree. Robert Hunter>>>>>>Bob Dylan
Posted on 9/28/12 at 12:24 pm to TreyAnastasio
This isn't about agreeing or disagreeing. This is about understanding the seismic shift in the entire way that music was performed and viewed as an entity during the mid to late 60s. All because of Dylan.
Rock was about dancing. That's all it was good for. Dylan changed that. Before him, it had never occurred to anyone that it would even be possible to make rock worth LISTENING to, rather than dancing to.
