Lets keep the thread going today. Here is another interesting release found on Stonerbixx...

quote:

The Fur's debut swims in a colorful sea of stoned and spaced out riffs, addictive melodies and thick grooves. A fresh and convenient package for any fan of (instrumental) stoner, space and psychedelic rock. Quality stuff!

Pretty groovy stuff

The Fur

quote:

Founded in the spring of 2011, The Fur is a talented instrumental trio that delivers immersive psychedelic 70's jams like no other. These guys hit the sonic sweet spot between Colour Haze, Kyuss and Earthless with their blend of majestic and sunny fuzzed-out psychedelica. I saw The Fur perform live at some obscure location in Belgium on May 2013 and they instantly blew my mind with a powerful and dynamic wall of sound. The world needs to hear these wonderful tunes! I stayed in touch, and here we finally are: The Fur's self-titled debut, freshly released. This is without a doubt another highly promising band that will gain a decent cult status throughout the blogoshpere for years to come.

The article is acurate when it states

It still captures the raw essence of Sleep. Just in case you have been living under a rock, or just really stoned,

This is turning out to be a great week for documentaries on the southern metal scene. Slow Southern Steel was finally released today after four years and its all on youtube.

quote:

Plot Outline Slow Southern Steel is a film about heavy music in the modern American South, as told by the very people who have created this music during the last two decades. Shot in back alleys, parking lots, and the seedy green rooms of the dirtiest clubs that the Bible Belt failed to snuff out, these diehard musicians discuss their love of music and the south, as well as the difficulties, contradictions, and insanity that haunt every southern artist. There are no illusions here, no apologies, no distractions - only the straight truth as told by those who would know the difference. Narrated by the notorious Dixie Dave Collins (Weedeater, Buzzov-en, Bongzilla), Slow Southern Steel is an authentic and honest and thorough look at one of the most remarkable music communities ever spawned on the continent.

quote:

Starring
Hank III, Kylesa, Eyehategod, Torche, Dark Castle, Sourvein, Zoroaster, A Hanging, Haarp, Hawg Jaw, Black Skies, Ketea, Parasytic, Beaten Back to Pure, ASG, The Roller, Dixie Witch, Weedeater, Royal Thunder and many many more.

LINK I remember when they filmed a piece at The Bar in Metarie four or five years ago. The director had some kind of legal issues holding up the release but its been shown at a few film festivals and he took it on tour once. Can't wait to finally watch it.

part 1 of the NOLA metal documentary series is online now LINK

This one's almost all about Phil Anselmo. New episodes are supposed to be every Tuesday and Thursday but this was also supposed to come out last week so who knows.

Just checked it out. Solid so far, but for me personally I was never super big into any of those bands. Hope them talk about Acid Bath more

Love the Melvins plug and how they changed the game for the sound comming out back then. "Slow can be heavy"

Will watch the entire doc. once avaliable.

Kirk Weinstein is a big Melvins fan and they're one of Crowbar's inspirations so maybe they'll talk more about that when they get to Crowbar.

That Wo Fat is just absolutely stunning. I can't stop listening to it. It's on heavy rotation.

Have really been digging the latest Blues Pills too.

It really is. It's in my car CD player right now, and it's just one of those albums that stands the test of time.

I also really loved II because it stretched out into some areas (jazz/country blues) that these guys just wouldn't have done with their other bands.

And I really liked III as well. Not as much as the other two, but it was really strong.

Now that Rex and Kirk are out, they've really gone to shite. They're doing this four EP bullshite because Phil wants to for some reason. And the first two EP's are boring as shite. Every song sounds the same, blah blah blah.

I hope Pepper's imminent return to Corrosion of Conformity will inspire him creatively.

Check out Harsh Toke

SoCal based stoner rock group of skateboarders, including renowed pro Justin Figueroa on guitar. Riley Hawk, son of the legendary Tony Hawk, also guests on a few jams. These guys rip on and off the board.
