I see Stonerbixx has that Cluth release as their Best of 2013.
That album is really good and I remember you Champion Brosef posting it way back in this thread or another.
Looking back on that site's list and what has come out , man was there a ton of good metal released or what this year!
Looking forward to Baloo's annual album of the year thread.

They describe themselves as a psychedelic Delta Blues band yet, All Them Witches from Nashville, Tennessee has a bit more on offer then you would expect. The key is in their mix with a modern folk kind of balance and style.
The focus is on atmosphere versus grinding fuzzed out dirty blues. Going into a track in a modern folk style like what Ray Lamontagne does with some of his songs, and what José Gonzaléz for example does is not uncommon. Now I’m not particularly in to their music, but I do respect they authentic approach and the atmosphere they bring. With All Them Witches you get both and it pays off in an awesome way. Don’t get me wrong this record is all but soft, it just has parts where the contrast is so strong the effect of the heavy bleus riffing that follows is just delivered so much better.
All Them Witches- Swallowed by the Sea
Holy frick this hits a bunch of likes in my ear.

Really been getting into the more long-form, "jam band" aspect of the genre, what with a recent rediscovery of Earthless. That led me to another group that's pretty good too:

Dopelord - Black Arts, Riff Worship & Weed Cult
DOPELORD-Acid Trippin'
So far so good... some of you will enjoy the hell out of this

As far as band comparisations go, Dopelord is like a "best of" with a heavily influenced sound they proudly make their own. It's as heavy, trippy, spaced out and stoned as we always love and loved it in the stoner/ doom departement. Dopelord's second full-length continues where Magick Rites left off with added charm and flavor. A more fuzzy and rawer approach than its predecessor. It's seems like the band added a more sleazy and vintage feel to their overall sound and production quality. The riffs are dirtier and the vocals are more exposed.

I'm terrible at keeping up with genre's, so where would you put Mastadon, Ministry and COC?
Posted on 4/21/14 at 4:42 pm to Lakeboy7
Mastodon fits the stoner metal. One of my favorite bands!!!
Ministry is more industrial metal in sound.
Conform of Conformity??? Not real familar.
And That High on Fire song mentioned is a classic.

All three of those bands fit into multiple genres. Mastodon started out very heavy and sludgy, now they're full on prog rock. Ministry started out as techno dance music, then changed to industrial metal. COC started out doing punk/thrash crossover, then went to a southern rock sound with Pepper Keenan, and now are back to doing the old punk/thrash sound.

Thanks for pointing me at All Them Witches. I hadn't heard of them before, and I really like the album "Lightning at the Door" that you linked. Very good stuff!

No problem. I am trying to get others on board. This band is truly, truly great.

They're not defunct anymore. They still play shows here and there and are working on new music now.

I wish Dozer would get back together.
