This song has one of the best riffs I've ever heard in a rock song and the chorus kicks arse as well. Just an all around awesome song that anyone can get into. Love it!

Oddly enough, most Soundgarden fans I know, have this song slightly behind Black Hole Sun as the worst SG songs...

Coincidentally, I had this conversation on Saturday... cheers!

Like I posted yesterday, pretentious music listeners like to say that a well known artist's most well known and popular songs are their worst songs. These "fans" want to seem like they are more in the know than you. What they are is full of shite. This song kicks arse despite the opinions of these self-appointed musical experts.

That's something that people like to throw out there when other people think their taste is shite... I guess their feelings are hurt or something...

Or the songs genuinely suck... not for me to decide for other people..

Those are their two most overplayed songs for sure.

Not even close to their best.

What's the story with Matt Mascona using this song as his intro?

Hate to admit it, but that is probably why I do not have the song on mp3...and I have 30 plus Soundgarden songs.

Not to sound like a troll or one of the pompous individuals that you alluded to, but I kind of hate most of Superunknown. "Spoonman" is alright but I think it's reputation is based mostly on the number of lackluster filler tracks on that album. "Fell on Black Days" is a great single, but the album lacks the raw power and intensity of the prior releases.

I hate their change in sound from Louder Than Love and Badmotorfinger to Superunknown. I blame Kim Thayil's stubbornness towards hard rock and metal for their shift towards alternative/commercial rock.

Huge Soundgarden fan and I couldn't agree more. Black Hole Sun got massively overplayed by radio and MTV, and Spoonman is just altogether horrible from every perspective. There's so many better songs on Superunknown.

The entire Superunknown album got overplayed to the point that Black Hole Sun hurts my ears when I hear it now. But it does remind me of that summer of '94 a lot. Crazy crazy summer. I always like My Wave off that album when it first came out and then it sort of blew up to.

Overplayed and worst are entirely different things. Anyone that says that's their worst song is just being a self-righteous dumbass.

Superunknown

Spoonman might be the worst song on the whole album.

I guess I'm not a Soundgarden fan because that's my favorite song of theirs.

I always get a kick out of the way people respond to things like this. It's all a matter of personal taste just like food. One person can think something is absolutely superb in either song or food and the next thins it's garbage. For the record I like Spoonman just as much as I like other songs by them that didn't get as much radio play. People will be people though!

Birth Ritual is my vote for their best riff.

I can't make a damned word out of his lyrics other than "ritual". But the sounds coming from my speakers make me want to drink beer, go to the gym, slam dance (never actually did it), and wear Doc Martens.

Cornell acoustic show is on my list of "must see" shows if he ever comes back around. Songbook is INCREDIBLE. Amazing that his voice held up
