My favorite piece of bass is from "Chameleon" by Herbie Hancock off of the album Head Hunters. "Watermelon Man" off of that same album has some pretty bad arse bass as well.

eta:"Duel of the Jester and the Tyrant" by Return to Forever off of the album Romantic Warrior has some pretty good bass as well. Stanly Clark

eta2: Probably some of the most technically impressive bass playing out there is on "Sinister Minister" by Bela Fleck & the Flecktones. Victor Wooten isn't for everybody, but he's impressive no matter who you are.

yes I love watching the live 1973 version on youtube, it's like the first one that pops up. I always throw it back and listen 2 or 3 times

I was going to say this on Page 1 but I thought it was a little cheesy and way too obvious.

Here are a couple more that deserve mention:

Smoke On The Water [live at Montreux 2006] - Deep Purple

Iron Man [live in Paris 1970] - Black Sabbath

Too many JPJ to pick favorites but

Ramble On

Always thought it was kill how the bass played along with the sig in this, and is among the greatest 80s songs.

Joy Division
