First I heard it today.

I knew he was a liberal, but he did a decent job of keeping it out of his music.

He's clearly going all in.

Yep. I definitely won't buy this album, or any tickets to this tour. I may refuse to support any future tours or albums. I HATE listening to musicians drone on and on about politics. It is really a dick move to spoonfeed propoganda to a captive audience who just wants to hear your songs. It's why I don't go to Ted Nugent, Bruce Springsteen, or Greenday shows. When artists start trying to "make a statement" with their music and get overly political, I tune out.

The only real exception is Rage Against the Machine for some reason.

White man's World was pretty damn obnoxious. Hell, "American Idiot" was less subtle than that claptrap. It's a little more artistic than Toby Keith's "boot up their arse" song after 9/11, but still not something I want to pay to listen to.

As most, I've known for years that even the majority of country artists are liberal leaning. Hell Tim McGraw learned the "lefty lean" after moving to Nashville. These folks are no different than you and I. They take on the beliefs of those they socialize with.

Hell, Donald Feagin would be horrified by my politics. However, at the same time I've seen SD live 5 times and never heard either Fagan or Becker mention politics.

Eh, it's a microcosm of America today.

Everybody is running around calling each other snowflakes...but members of both sides get their panties in a bunch and need a safe space when somebody mentions a political view that differs from their own.

Did you see the OP? He's soliciting for BLM. He has a song on his album about how his daughter's future is completely uncertain because our country is so misogynist that it elected Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton. It doesn't get much more political than that.

A song. A single song.

Goddamn, somebody stop the presses. Isbell has turned into Rage Against the Machine.

There's a difference between droning "on and on" and simply having a flag up in support of BLM. And, I personally don't see anything wrong with a musician writing a song expressing their concerns political or not. Is he wrong in that he is worried about his daughters future? I feel like and artist should write about such things. But what the hell do I know? I'm a "libtard" because I'm not conservative on all issues.

Also, this may as well go to the political board.

It's not just a song. That's the problem. He's campaigning for BLM at his concerts. If it was just a song, I'd brush it off. He's on the verge of going full blown activist.

It's as stupid as any of Ted Nugent's rants about how Obama was going to make the whole country turn into communist sodomites. Politics is generally toxic to music. You have to be more subtle.

After listening to it a few times, there are few things in the actual song I even object to

Now, I could extrapolate the song and make some predictions about Isbell's feelings on specific issues and motivations, but the song itself doesn't bother me at all

If you aren't walking into it with a huge chip on your shoulder.... it's hard to find offense in sentiments that a lot of people choose comfort instead of standing up in moments they should stand up in. That's really the only race sentiment for most of it.

As hes a man with new wife and baby girl-- I can't blame him for being a little apprehensive about how they fit in society.

If this song goes waaaaay beyond what someone can take, I think that is on them and not isbell. I don't think it's his best writing but to be offended by it seems like looking for reasons to be offended.

Exactly. People saw the title of the song and hated it without hearing it.
