I was fascinated by the rise and demise of the studio. I never realized how much of the music I grew up with was created there. Also, I was never a huge Paul McCartney fan but in this flick the old man brings it.

Pretty good little flick. I do wish they would have spent more time on the studio itself though. Some of it felt very haphazard.

I did enjoy the part where the guy was explaining how the board works to Grohl and he is just smiling and the little "surely he knows I am a high school dropout" caption pops up

I really enjoyed seeing all those great albums that were produced there. It also made me realize how today's music doesn't quite measure up.

Did anyone else think the music they played during the film sounded really good? Obviously the songs were, but the way it came through sounded amazing. Maybe I'm over-analyzing but nothing has ever sounded that high-quality over my speakers

I agree, virtually every song sounded great. And I'm not really a fan of most of the bands that were featured in this doc.

I liked how it was kind of in two parts; part one all about the studio and the awesome stories that came from it; like Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham met Mick Fleetwood in passing at the studio and ended in the band a year or so later and that launched Fleetwood Mac into superstars.
Also, I like how RATM wanted to record there cuz Nevermind was recorded there; and they made their sessions into a live atmosphere with friends hanging out like it was a concert;
and in part 2, Dave moving the board to his own studio and recording/writing music with Trent, Homme, Paul McCartney!! was really cool;
streaming the album here Sound City Full Album, I like all the songs; The last one, with Trent, Homme and Dave sounds like a long jam session but I love that!
Stevie Nicks song is prob my overall fave on the album though

I thought the same thing. The quality of the sound, particularly when describing that famous drum-sound, was goosebump-inducing (yes, I'm probably partial 'cause I'm a drummer). I bought the soundtrack and it's something I listen to pretty often...
