Sadly I think the Avett Brothers are evolving out of what I like about them

Fan going back a few years. I know most groups have to grow but when I saw them last time live they had like 7 people on stage playing a drumset, violin, etc. which is a different experience than before. Seems like the newer tunes are missing what I liked about their earlier stuff (banjo punk like riffs).

Not a fan of their last album, but the live shows are still incredible. Will be seeing them at the Fox this weekend.

I saw them in a packed (50 people?) coffee shop/record store in Greenville, SC in 2005ish. They'll never be what I originally liked about them. Yes, their new stuff sounds overly produced and watered down.

The new album is not good but I think the songs off that album still sounded pretty good live. I hate "Ain't No Man" with a passion.

That whole bro folk genre is so terrible, and it's all the white people in the suburbs listen to. I can hardly enjoy the pool with all the Bose bluetooths blasting that awful stuff and the women with the Bud Light Limes poured into a Yeti Tumbler singing along.

I agree with you and they've been trending that way for a while. They now write forced emotional pussy shite. Head full of doubt album was solid and produced a few great songs (laundry room mainly) but it really signaled the beginning of the end.

If you don't like The Carpenter, there's something wrong with you.

They are an incredible live act, and I think they truly understand the special relationship they have with their fan base.

Bands will always evolve, and sometimes the original fans aren't able to come along for the ride. With as much music as they have been putting out, I think it is only natural that there will be some misses. I and Love and You was something that I could listen to all the way through. Haven't been able to say that about any of the subsequent records; however, they are still TAB and there are standout tracks on every release.

I'm still on board. The live shows are still damn good, although they too must evolve by necessity. As the venues grow, the sound needs to as well. Hard to fill a venue like Champions Square with their original stripped down lineup/sound.

All that being said, I would love to be able to see them again in a small venue with Scott and Seth working the kick drum/high hat percussion thing.

Even if avetts been around longer, the Mumford and sons are really breaking ground in the bluegrass field while still sounding old timey while the avetts are just copying yonder mountain etc

That's a good point.

the second statement is probably dumber than the first statement. Wilder Mind is a straight up pop record.

Yeah, I miss the old arrangements, punky sound, and shot along choruses. They were a spectacular live act, but it's not quite the same in these larger venues. I'm glad they are successful, but they're no longer the band I first enjoyed. And while they are still a good live act, it's a different kind of show, as there's no going back to 50-100 people screaming along in a sweaty bar.

I'll still buy the new records, but I'm pretty much trapped in the Four Thieves Gone/Emotionalism era.

It's music for girls by guys that look like hipsters. If you listen to this you'll grow a vagina and your wife will cheat on you.
