Huge, huge loss, and a hell of a virtuoso. That being said, enough shitting on Elvis FFS. I get it, a legend just died, and you want to take up for him....but you're not earning any cred by minimizing the legends before Prince. You better believe Elvis would've at least have gotten a co-writing credit on most of his songs, had they been recorded & released years later and under different circumstances. He arranged the frick out of those songs so much, he practically made them his own...so a little respect for the King, please.
The ONLY way Elvis would have gotten any co-writing credit on songs is if he blackmailed the writers to give it to him (give me the co-writing credit or I won't record your song). As for arranging I'm sure he did have a tremendous amount of say in the studio. Elvis was a savvy businessman and knew his audience better than anyone. He certainly knew how to take a song and make it his own, however placing him in the same realm as Prince in regards to song writing and musicianship is nothing short of asinine.
I appreciate the King and his performing skills as well as how he helped shape the American musical landscape.

Never intended to make it a "this guy vs. that guy" discussion. Just saying, Prince had more than enough on his resume where it's just unnecessary to crap on other deserved icons.
Yes, Elvis had little or nothing to do with writing songs...but he shaped a song more than many modern hacks who cherry-pick a song from the farm, add a lyric, and have the balls to claim 50% co-writing credit.
