Anyone hitting the classic rock combo at Champions Square in N.O. tonight?

Never seen either one.

Always liked Frampton--he's put out some interesting guitar work in recent years.

As far as Skynyrd, it'll at least be good to actually HEAR "Freebird" played for once when every a-hole in the crowd is yelling it out.

Skynyrd reminds me of a cover band these days. The fat arse brother lead singer is no Ronnie.

Saw Lynyrd Skynyrd back on the reunion tour, or whatever they called it- their first concert tour after the plane crash.

They were heading to Baton Rouge to play when the accident happened, if I remember it right, and years later, they finally made it- started the next tour at the Centroplex. That was a phenomenal concert, I remember them having 2 complete drummers and something like 5 or 6 guys playing guitar. Great performance, and lots of emotion from both the band and the audience.

Just my personal opinion, I wouldn't see them live again after that. I don't think there is any way they could match it again.

I really don't recall that incarnation. I do recall the Rossington Collins Band, see link. Note that I was at the referenced concert on New Year's Eve at the Omni.

An Atlanta band called Whitefact opened (good), followed by an Atlanta band called Mother's Finest (excellent) and then RCB. They closed with an instrumental Free Bird which closed the house down.

RCB

1991

Skynyrd was headed to BR when the plane crashed, and afterwards, everything was various side projects for awhile.
They retook the name, and opened the tour in BR, I believe it was meant to be a one-tour tribute (if I remember, had the surviving members of the earlier group, and about half of 38 Special, as well as Johnny Van Zandt).

It wasn't the Rossington Collins Band, it was the Rossington Band.....Allen Collins was in a wheelchair bc of an auto accident; it eventually led to his death. I saw them on the same tour.

Went to the concert, it was better than expected. Champions Square is an awesome venue--I'd highly recommend it. Lots of room to move around, whether you have reserved seats or General Admission. Lots of drink selection--mixed, domestic beer, imports, draft, cans, etc. Quite a food variety too, some outside and some in a food-court type area next to the square. Also doesn't hurt that you can tailgate at Walk One's across the street.

Skynyrd's only original member is Gary Rossington, who still kicks arse on guitar. The band was tight and it was an enjoyable set, filled with every hit, of course.

The real surprise was Peter Frampton. While he now looks like his own grandpa, he is in great voice and his guitar skills are excellent. I was a kid when "Frampton Come Alive" came out (about the same time Skynyrd had all their hits) and this was a great "throwback" show. He did an amazing version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" too.

The concert referenced was on New Year's Eve 1980. The accident that left Collins paralyzed from the waist down and eventually lead to his death happened in January 1986.

Maybe he wasn't at the show you saw, but he sure as hell was in Atlanta.
