I just don't think Maynard is all that crazy about being the lead singer/front man for the band Tool.

Maybe that's a character he's carefully cultivated over the years, particularly since Lateralus.

I agree 100%. He seems more interested in making wine.

Maynard was really into the New Orleans show and they're coming back to Voodoo because Voodoo knows they'll attract a huge crowd and TOOL really enjoyed themselves as a band. I bet they play more new shite at this show. Hell even Puscifer is coming and they're pretty damn good too.

I honestly think the holdup is Maynard being unable or unwilling to write lyrics for TOOL anymore. It's his most personal band and he put a lot into 10000 Days lyrically and the well could just be dry and he doesn't want to write in that style anymore. I hope I'm wrong. TOOL is one of the best bands I've ever heard.

He seemed to enjoy it in Nola. He even got in full dress and makeup for the second set and talked to the crowd. More to the point is I think that even if he loses interest for awhile, Tool's lack of a public image allows him to step away for lengthy amounts of time if he wants, so he never really feels tied down by it. We as fans never really know the difference, cause they don't tell us shite.

I read somewhere that you are supposed to fart into an empty wineglass, then pour his wine into it to taste the max pretentious undertones.

I don't believe Maynard lost interest in Tool. Maynard has been the only productive member of the band since 10k days.

He has putting out a book.
He has released a few Puscifer albums and multiple tours
He has really put his wine business out there and grew it.
He put out a new single with APC and toured with them.

I think Tool isn't an active project for him right now. He's trying to carve his own path since at the moment Tool isn't doing the carving. I think the reason he seems so annoyed at fans or interviewers is because when he wants to promote Puscifer or his wine, I think he's trying to keep the focus on that particular project since it's what is paying the bills. That's okay by me.

Being productive in other things doesn't mean he's still genuinely interested in Tool.

No you're right. It doesn't. But he's still willing to tour with them. It's been mentioned that Tool makes the music and then Maynard adds lyrics as the final step.

I'm of the opinion the lack of music to write lyrics for is the issue for a hold up and not his lack of passion or drive.

He also comments on the band's only show in 2015 and he sounds none too pleased about being with the band live, commenting "they had to con me into it."

I guess it's possible that this was taken out of context.

Or it's maynard being maynard. He pretty much follows this persona in any interview ever with him since the dawn of time.

In a similar way to Roger Waters and Pink Floyd, this has always been Tool's double-edged sword.
