New Country music artist: Margo Price
Posted by quail man on 3/25/16 at 6:17 pm20
Her debut album is out today entitled Midwest Farmer's Daughter. She recorded her demos at Sun Studios with her last bit of savings and everyone turned her down around Nashville. Then it got into Jack White's hands and he signed her to his record, Third Man. She's already getting comparisons to Dolly, Loretta, etc. A bit premature, IMO, but she's damn good. Country music is coming back.

Nice find. Took me about 30 seconds and I thought. Oh yes.

I saved the NPR preview on Facebook, hoping to listen to it later, but forgot about it. Saw her on Saturday Night Live, and it jolted my memory.
I D/L her album, and she is fricking amazing. I heard Waylon, Johnny Paycheck, Loretta Lynn, Patsy Cline, Lynn Anderson, Buck Owens, Merle, and a host of others as influences. I'll be honest...I think she's better than Sturgill, Isbell, and Liz Cook.
Don't know if anyone noticed, but the last couple bars of her first song on SNL were the first couple bars of Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried". She knows where her bread is buttered.
