Has anyone seen this band live? They're coming to Atlanta in August. I'm only going to the show because Band of Horses is with them but I want to try and get into this band since they're the headliner act.

I've listened to some of their recent CD's and it sounds like their type of music would probably translate well to a live show. Anyone else's experiences with them live would be helpful.

Yes, saw them in Dallas at the Palladium in 08....Small venue....Great show...They played for nearly 3 hours......Came out for their encore, and started playin "Call On Tyrone" by Erica Badou.....Then she came out and sang with them..it was pretty sick

They are a great live band...Go see them if you get the chance....Playing live is what they hang their hat on, and they rock...

Them with BOH should be sick BtW

Yes they put on a great show. I would go if they were coming anywhere close to me.

Jim James kills it.

If this doesn't make you want to see them live, you need to check your pulse.

I've seen both bands several times live, and with all due respect to BOH, MMJ blows them out of the water in a live setting.

I remember I saw BOH open for Iron and Wine at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta in like 2004 and thought, damn, these guys sound like My Morning Jacket. I just counted it up in my head and I think I've seen MMJ 9 times now. Basically every time they've come to Atlanta since they played at the Roxy for the first time and twice in Athens at the 40 Watt.

Yes. Saw them at Chastain Park a couple years ago and thought it was a great show. They encored with Move On Up by Curtis Mayfield.

Lots of hotties running around too.

don't listen to this dude.

Jim James is one of the best front men I've seen in a long time. There live shows are unreal. Do yourself a favor and go see them.

Yim yames is a great lead singer and mmj is an amazing live act. I wish they would come play a show in louisiana that isnt a festival show.

Definitely see them. That weekend is quite the whopper in ATL with Phish playing Lakewood.

Louisiana needs an amphitheater in New Orleans metro.

Or you need to not judge a band's live show ability off one performance you saw on tv.

Jim is a beast on stage - non festival settings suit the band better IMO. They embrace old rock shows.

If you like BOH you'll have absolutely no problem getting in to MMJ. It's kinda surprising you haven't heard much of them yet. Start out with It Still Moves and you'll be hooked.

I have only seen them once and it was as a non-fan, although I was looking forward to it based on their reputation.

It was at Lallapalooza last year. They headlined a stage Friday or Saturday. The first half was mind blowingly good. Seriously, I could not believe how original, tight and energetic the whole experience was... However, by the end I was bored out of my mind. There were a few late highlights, but most of it seemed self indulgent and not that interesting. They could drone on for five minutes with just subtle changes in the music. They came across as extremely talented and original, but some of their stuff was just bad live. Other moments were transcendent. Interesting band, for sure.

i saw them here in Tulsa a few months ago at the Brady Theater. I was expecting a better show, but it was good.
