I started on keys. It helped me see music theory before moving on to trumpet and then guitar and bass.
I never learned drums, and struggle to do even the most basic time keeping on it. 2 left feet.

I play double bass at 150+ bpm. Lots of blast beats at times too, wish I knew more with piano. Was thinking about taking up cello as a side-challenge.

Yeah I tried making a guitar before. Stacked up on some tools and made a pretty good one piece mahogany body and a maple neck before needing to buy even more tools. Never got those tools. That was 3 years ago.

i was think more in line of a Strat.
and really just want to assemble it, not actually make the body and neck.

something i'd like to do, but no way in hell am I disassembling my Strat to do it.

1. Put finishing touches on first album in 34 years. Actually, my part (bass and some backing vocals) is in the can, drummer and guitarist/lead vocalist are finishing final mixes.
2. Convert one-car garage to practice room/studio. Will be starting on this in March, depending on my builder friend's schedule.
3. Finally purchase a large rig. Been playing with small combo amps/mid-powered half stacks for many years, would like a pro-quality setup again.

What do you play? I've subbed for drummers in cover bands but I've never been a permanent member of one. Would be nice to make some steady money on the side.

From a playing live standpoint you're probably better off with the smaller gear. Unless you're playing arenas. But I know what you mean, it's great to have badass gear.
