I'm in the process of remodeling my house, and I've decided to turn an extra bedroom into a music room. Does anyone have anything like this? I just chose the wall color. Its going to be Summer Gray (Valspar). I'm planning on having a pop art/mid century modern décor. I really like a lot of Lichtenstein's art, so I'm going to be using a lot of his gallery wrapped prints and artists similar to him. I think I'm also going to start looking for some mid century modern furniture at estate sales. My girlfriend had the idea of painting the old furniture bright primary colors to contrast with the walls and complement the art. It'll just be a place for me to go play my guitars, listen to music, and maybe do a little writing. I'm interested to hear what some of you guys have, and if you have ideas for prints that I should consider I'd be interested to hear that as well.

This is going to sound very gay, but honestly Pinterest would have some good ideas. People post shite like this all the time on there and with the look you're going for, there will be some cool ideas. People can get very creative. I did it when I was looking for ideas on how to store my records.

Eta: type in music room. Some of the ideas are cheesy but there are some good ones

Have you heard of the Pinterest food board? It's porn if you're into food. My wife uses it a lot for making dank recipes. No shame here

I would frown on painting a piece of mid century furniture unless it's finish is totally gone.

The only music room I know is a screen porch with an ice chest full of beer

I have a dedicated audio room. It has sound traps/treatments throughout as well as 8 dedicated 20A outlets feeding it.

Just a couch and a chair facing the audio rig. Walls are light grey.

I don't think so. I don't plan on doing any professional level recording or anything though, so it's not really necessary.

Look up Gerrit Rietveld....dutch architect and furniture designer.....I've actually built a dining table of his and a "sideboard" which I use as an entertainment center.

I just saw the price tag on these. How difficult was it to build the table? I've bever done any wood working, but I really like this style.

Doesn't look like you're actually going to be doing any recording, but if you are, assuming you have a closet, use it as an isolation room.

I hung a bunch of clothes around the perimeter of mine to soundproof. Then I was able to put my amp in there and record it dimed without pissing off the neighbors.

There is no substitute for power tube distortion. If all you're going to do is hammer out some cowboy chords an an acoustic, then nevermind....

Yea, Rietveld is up there with Eames stuff price wise.

The table....called Rietveld Military Table, was super easy. It's all straight cuts and butt joints. I did laminate birch plywood together to make my legs and cross pieces. But if you are painting it you could use 2 x pieces and rip them to size. You may need to find a table saw to do this.

This guy seems to have plans posted if you register at his site.

That looks awesome. I emailed a shop teacher up here to see if they would consider building one of the chairs as a project. Not sure how that would work out, but I figured it was worth asking the question. After looking at that table, I think i'm capable of doing that. I'd just have to borrow a table saw from my handy man.

For a lot of the chairs I have sketch Up 3D models. Sketch Up is a free program.....you can query the model for dimensions.....it's easy if you have any CAD background.

As I realtor I use CAD all the time. Haha :). I do have an engineer friend that might be helpful with that.
