Pretty much every member of YES is underrated because prog rock is too nerdy for consumers.

Fair enough. Probably just my bias for the hometown guy.

Wakeman, Squire, and Howe are absolute virtuosos of their respective instruments. I don't blame folks for not enjoying anything beyond Fragile and The Yes Album, it's too much for simple listening. Even those albums have some indulgent neo-classical rock compositions, but some degree of pop appeal exists.

Chris squire is rock god status-- not underrated , he's the best.. Gene Simmons is underrated only because nobody actually thinks he plays bass and he's actually very good - he makes Detroit rock city, sure know something, etc.

To that end, here's some excerpts from those albums by

Steve Bailey who performs often with Wooten is equally unbelievable on the fretless 6 string bass, not underrated, but not well known.

He was well respected by his peers, but I always thought Bill Wyman got overlooked. His style was stoic but watch his hands.

Absolutely. Listen to the bass lines on some of their earlier recordings. He was ahead of the game.

It's ok, cuz Primus sucks!

Robert DeLeo (STP) belongs in this discussion. I get wood still when I hear "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart"

I wouldn't think anyone who listens to rock/metal would think Steve underrated. Most of the guys in this thread have never been considered underrated, IMO. Maybe it's an age thing. Most of us older guys grew up with these players and knew how awesome they were, and the praise they were afforded. Maybe it's been forgotten.
