The Antlers - Hospice

Incredibly bleak but amazing album. The lyrics matched with the singers painful delivery and the spooky atmospherics create quite a listening experience.

Yeah when it comes to bands that just hit you in the gut and will make you tear up, The Antlers are up there. There's a couple tracks on Burst Apart that are similar. Hospice is still my favorite. Damn, it's a great album.

The Cure "Bloodflowers"
The Mission UK "Blue" (Especially the song, Tears Shall Drown the Wind)

And, there is a certain sadness and real emotions of angst and hurt and longing on NIN "Pretty Hate Machine".

in a way, Johnny Cash - American IV: The Man Comes Around can be depressing when thinking about the songs and his tone.

Is that his final one?

The one where he covers "Hurt"?
Man that is depressing to the extreme. Especially knowing the circumstances that he was dying and all.

Yeah. Most all songs are covers or rerecordings of his work.

Black Dirt Session - Deer Tick

Lots of melancholy in Tennessee Fire - My Morning Jacket, but too much upbeat stuff to call it a depressing album.

Being There - Wilco

Great album.

Warren Zebon's last album.

The Wall is depressing.

This album is utterly heartbreaking and beautiful.

I submit:

Modest Mouse - Building Nothing out of Something

The Everybodyfields - Nothing is Okay
